Library Foundation Board Minutes from February 2020

The Ainsworth Library Foundation Board held its regular quarterly meeting on Feb. 13, 2020. The meeting was called to order by President Marsha Fuchs at 5:20 p.m.  Roll call showed the following members present.   They include Wendy Allen, Marsha Fuchs, Phyllis Leach, and Bill Lentz.  Library director, Gail Irwin was also present.

No minutes were approved due to the absence of the secretary.  The Treasurer’s Report was presented by Wendy Allen.  No bills were presented for payment.  A check was issued to Gail Irwin in the amount of $427.99 for purchase of two laptops from the Matthew Kulek memorial which was approved at the last meeting.  The Gift Transaction List from Nov. 19 to Feb. 20 was shared.

Discussion was held on the landscaping project.  Marsha will be getting the grass seed planted this spring.  Cement work by the north and south exit doors will be done when the weather gets nice.  Gail will get information on the cost for a soaker system for the plants out front.

A review was done on the Book to Movie Basket Auction Fundraiser held in November.  We raised $1,105 from the event.  14 baskets were sold with the silent bids and 8 baskets were sold as buy me now.  The weather was not nice the day of the auction.   Discussion was held on holding the basket auction next time with the Chili Cookout/Feed sponsored by the Hospital.  It was noted that we paid the Grand Theater a total of $220 for 44 movie tickets for the children 12 and under on Nov. 30th.  The Fire Department paid for the movie rights and the Chamber of Commerce provided the free popcorn.

It was noted that the Heat Press and Printer is up and going.  Four items made at a recent Cricut Workshop from wood, metal, paper, and leather was shared with the Board.  It was felt that it would be better to purchase a Cricut Maker instead for the vinyl cutter like in the Makerspace we had on loan.  This will be discussed at the next meeting when all members will be present.

The Freda Hinrichs Memorial was discussed.  Marsha had some information for metal works but no decision was made at this time.

The Library is in the process of scheduling a puppet show with the Parasol Puppets from Missouri for this summer.  They will perform THE RAT PRINCESS on Friday, June 19th at 2 p.m. The performance fee is $235 and the travel fee at this time is $225 for a total of $460.  If there are more bookings in our area the travel fee would be reduced.  When the Letter of Agreement and invoice is received, the board will be contacted for approval to pay this.

Several fundraisers were discussed.  This is the summer to hold the Garden Walk.  The hospital has mentioned to us that they would like to be on the list so they could promote the Community Garden.   Other possible sites for visits were discussed.  The Library Director shared information on Collective Goods (formerly known as Books are Fun).  Everyone liked this as a fundraiser for in October.  The Library Director will contact the company and get things set up.

The next meeting date was set for May 14th at 5 p.m.  Since there was no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 6:05 p.m.
