Balloon Artist Coming to the Library

Ethan Boggs will be at the Ainsworth Public Library on Monday, June 13th, from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. Ethan, an outgoing eighth grader, will be sharing his balloon twisting creations with us. Ethan comes to use from Seward, Ne and has a laid back style and fun personality that will entertain his audience while he is twisting. He has experience twisting balloons for libraries, churches, birthday parties, and other events.

Ethan found a balloon twisting book at the library when he was ten years old. Over time he taught himself how to make balloon animals using the instructions in the book. Each year he has added more designs to his repertoire and now he can make a wide variety of creations.

This event is open to all and free. The Central Plains Library System and the Ainsworth Public Library is sponsoring this program. The Library will be doing a door prize drawing for a book on balloon twisting, some twisting balloons and air pump. Hope to see you there!

Open House to feature STEM/STEAM

National Library Week will be observed from April 4-9th with the theme of “Connect at Your Library”.  This is the perfect time for the Ainsworth Public Library to connect you with all the new STEM/STEAM items added to the Public Library.   A special Open House will be held with our STEM/STEAM items on April 7th from 4-5 p.m.

The Library recently was awarded an ARPA Youth Grant for Excellence from the Nebraska Library Commission in the amount of $1100 to address the need for education programs for the young people of our community.    STEM/STEAM promotes the subjects of science, technology, engineering, art and math. The funds were used to purchase a Kid Spark STEM Pathways Lab; Ratio Reveal Set; Q-BA Maze ; Keva Color Pops; plus a STEM Supplies Mobile Drawer Organizer.  STEM books were also purchased for our children’s non-fiction section.  Titles include a set of 5 “STEM: Engaging Hands-On Challenges Using Everyday Materials “ for students in 1st -5th grade;  a set of 3 “Year Round Project-Based Activities for STEM” for PreK to 3rd grade students; and “Coding From Scratch”.  All these items will be show cased for hands on exploration at the Open House.  Please stop by and see all the STEM/STEAM items available at the library!

This project is supported in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Nebraska Library Commission.

The Ainsworth Book Club will be starting another year of great reading and sharing on September 20th at 2 p.m. We will be discussing the title “One Thousand White Women” by Jim Fergus. The library has extra copies so stop by and check one out. Read it and join the discussion of this great book!

The story is based on an actual historical event but told through fictional diaries, this is the story of May Dodd–a remarkable woman who, in 1875, travels through the American West to marry the chief of the Cheyenne Nation.
