Visit the Ainsworth Library during National Library Week

National Library Week will be celebrated from April 4-10, 2021, with the theme of “Welcome to Your Library”.  We want to promote the idea that libraries extend far beyond the four walls of a building – and that everyone is welcome to use their services. During the pandemic libraries have been going above and beyond to adapt to our changing world by expanding their resources and continuing to meet the needs of their users. Whether people visit in person or virtually, libraries offer opportunities for everyone to explore new worlds and become their best selves through access to technology, multimedia content, and educational programs.

We will be featuring “Go Fish:  Read a Book” all week long.  Fish bowls will be set up with paper fish that list a book.  You draw the fish and then check out the title that is listed on the paper fish.   We will have three different levels of reading for people to fish from.   It should be a fun time!

On Monday, library staff will be handing out the packet #1 of the April Take and Make.  It will have all the needed items to make a bubble wand.  The children should have lots of fun blowing bubbles.

On Tuesday, we will be featuring our many DVD’s.  It will be Movie Check-Out Day.  Check out a DVD and get a movie kit (which will consist of a bag of microwave popcorn and a popcorn box which you will make yourself).

Wednesday will be a No Fine Day.  Please get your overdue items returned!

Thursday we will be featuring book characters.  Come dressed as your favorite book character and pick out a free book to take home and keep.

Friday will be Color your World Day.  Relax with a color page and take your Covid-19 stress away.

We look forward to seeing many library patrons in the library during this special week.

April Book Club Title Announced

The featured title for the Book Club in April will be the title “Zoo Nebraska” by Carson Vaughan. The Library has several extra copies available for readers to enjoy. Just stop by the Library.

Royal, Nebraska had for nearly twenty years, a zoo that rose from local peculiarity to a key tourist attraction to a devastating tragedy. Reuben the Chimpanzee was the featured draw to the zoo. Johnny Carson even donated money to build a Primate Center. This is a true story of small-town politics and community perseverance and a of decent people and questionable choices which lead to a tragic end of a dream.

The group will gather on April 19th at 2 p.m. to share thoughts on the book. I know that many of us had visited this zoo in the past and have great memories of the experience. Should be a great read!

The February Book Club will feature the 2021 One Book One Nebraska Title

The One Book One Nebraska title for 2021 will be the featured Book Club selection for the month of February at the Ainsworth Public Library.  “Prairie Forge: The Extraordinary Story of the Nebraska Scrap Metal Drive of World War II” by James J. Kimble will take readers across the entire state of Nebraska during the scrap metal drive early in America’s involvement in World War II.  When Henry Doorly initially developed a plan to urge citizens to donate scrap metal to help with arms production, he had no idea that his plan would expand from Omaha to the entire state and then be used as model for a national scrap drive. The book covers every county’s participation in the Nebraska Plan, and how it fit into the large effort on a national level.  The library will have copies available after January 19th.  We will have a book discussion on the title on February 16th at 2 p.m.  Please stop by and get a copy to read!

The One Book One Nebraska reading program is entering its seventeenth year.  It encourages Nebraskan across the state to read and discuss one book, chosen from books written by Nebraska authors or that have a Nebraska theme or setting.  The One Book One Nebraska is sponsored by Nebraska Center for the Book, Humanities Nebraska, The Backwaters Press, and the Nebraska Library Commission.
