Adult Summer Reading

We have two different adult summer reading programs at the Alliance Public Library, and you can participate in one or both.

  • Check out any music book or music DVD (i.e. musical, concert) to enter the weekly drawing for 2 tickets to the Fort Robinson Post Playhouse.
  • Complete all 6 of the categories below to be entered into a drawing for $100 in Chamber Bucks to be held on June 29 – all items must be checked out from the Alliance Public Library:
    1. Book about a music composer or genre of music (i.e. Rock & Roll, Opera, Pop, Country, Jazz)
    2. Book written by or about musicians/performers
    3. Book with “music” in the title (or music-related)
    4. Book by an author who is new to you
    5. Book of your choice
    6. Watch a DVD of a musical or concert

Special Summer Reading Activities and Programs

  • Friday, May 18 from 2-4 pm ~ Registration Event featuring special music from area youth
  • Thursday, May 24 at 6 pm ~ Music! Music! Music! with Larry Holub and Cynthia Horn 
  • Thursday, May 31 at 6 pm ~ Sheet Music Creations with craft made with sheet music. Please register by contacting the library no later than 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29th.
  • Monday, June 11 at 6 pm ~ Music of the World with Dave Marsh who will demonstrate instruments from around the world. Humanities Nebraska provides major funding for this program. Humanities Nebraska receives support from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Nebraska State Legislature, the Nebraska Cultural endowment, and private donations.
  • Thursday, June 14 at 6 pm ~ Grand Old Flag with Flag Day Trivia and Sing-A-Long. Celebrate the Stars and Stripes with marvelous music and fun facts! The American Legion Auxiliary #7 will offering a presentation on the symbolism inherent in the folding of the flag.
  • Friday, June 15 at 5 pm ~ Dance by the Decades Family Event featuring Mike Glesinger, DJ. We will rock through the decades from the 50’s to the 70’s! Families and groups are encouraged to dress up for one the decades and   there will be a prize for best costumes!
  • Thursday, June 21 at 4 pm ~ Rock Menagerie Rock Art with Jelinda Nye— Cost is $5 and please RSVP by June 14. This craft will require a few hours to complete, so bring your supper for a short meal break.  Please have your rock prepared in advance with 2-3 coats of Gesso, which is available at the Library.  More information on this craft is available at the Circulation Desk, so remember to RSVP and receive specific instructions.
  • Thursday, June 28 at 6 pm ~ America, the Beautiful patriotic concert with Larry Leinweber and Friends
  • Friday, June 29 at 1 pm ~ Musical Games Family Event featuring Musical Chairs, Limbo, Name That Tune, and other musical surprises!
