APL Board

The Alliance Public Library Board meets the second Wednesday of every month at 4:00 p.m. at the Alliance Public Library.

Current 2022 board members include:

  • Maxine Anderson
  • Donna Frisch
  • Travis O’Gorman
  • Aimee Otto
  • Wally Seiler

According to section 1-808 of the Alliance Municipal Code:

The members of the Library Board shall be appointed by majority vote of the City Council. The term of each member shall be four years with two members to be appointed every fourth year after 1974; and three members to be appointed every fourth year after 1976. Terms of board members shall begin July 1 of their year appointed.

In the case of vacancy, the City Council shall appoint a replacement for the unexpired term. No member of the Library Board shall receive pay or compensation for his or her services as a member of the Board.

According to section 1-809 of the Alliance Municipal Code:

The Library Board shall work with the Library Director, City manager and City Council in regard to the operation, maintenance and development of the Public Library. The Library Board is delegated the following specific responsibilities:

a. To insure and participate in preparation of annual library budget in accordance with the format used by other city departments and divisions.

b. To aide the City Manager in the screening of applicants for the position of Library Director, and to be available to assist the Library director in the screening of applicants for subordinate positions within the Library.

c. To provide a recommendation to the City Manager on the hiring of a Library Director.

d. To determine with the Library Director and the City Manager the hours of operation of the Public Library.

e. To maintain and expand the materials comprising the collection of the Public Library.

f. To review and recommend approval of expenditures proposed by the Library Director for approval by the Mayor and City Council.

g. To represent the City and Public Library within professional association and at the library functions.

h. To initiate and implement new library programs, expand existing programs and delete out dated programs.
