Read Your Way Across the USA
Beginning January 25, young people in grades 4 through 8 can participate in “Read Your Way Across the USA” which is a cumulative program featuring book selections from all 50 states. After completing a registration form, participants read and complete the program at their own pace with no set deadline. When they have completed the program, they receive a prize. All books must be checked out from the Alliance Public Library collection to qualify.
Read Across America with Dr. Seuss
Read Across America with Dr. Seuss runs February 16 through March 31. Registration forms are available at the Circulation Desk and each participant will receive a reward chart.
For each four books read, children can select a prize and will receive stickers on their reward chart. For those who complete twelve books, their name will be submitted in the grand prize drawing of a Dr. Seuss basket.
A coloring contest with completed coloring sheets can be turned in at the library for a prize. Please bring coloring sheets to the library by March 24 to be on display until March 31. Overall winner will receive a grand prize and coloring sheets will be returned to you after March 31.
To ensure equal access to our Seuss collection, a checkout limit of 4 books per household is in place for the duration of the program. All books must be checked out from the Alliance Public Library to qualify.
Many thanks to the Alliance Public Library Foundation for our prizes!!
Make & Take Crafts
Open to all children and parents/caregivers are encouraged to participate. Crafts days are held for special occasions such as Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day. Children six and under must be accompanied by a responsible caregiver. Please check back for more information concerning, dates, time, and craft descriptions.
Lego Club is currently suspended due to Covid-19
All children from Kindergarten and up are welcome to come build with Legos in a positive social environment. Parents must register their child at the circulation desk prior to attending. Meets on most Tuesdays in the library workroom from 3:45-4:45.
Code Club is currently suspended due to Covid-19
Children 8 and older (must be able to read and work independently) can learn to code while playing computer games! Research has shown that children learn these skills best by doing but are more likely to “do” in a group setting with peers. We will start out simple and children will work at their own pace but can actually learn to build their own video games and apps. This is an informal setting with an adult facilitator. Participants can bring their own laptops (recommended) and APL will provide some as well. Children must be able to read and work independently. Meets on most Thursdays in the library workroom from 3:45-5 p.m. Please watch the Alliance Public Library Facebook page for changes to the schedule.
