Summer Reading Contest

The summer reading contest is starting again. Kids can start bringing in their pages read at any time. You can count the pages you’ve been reading since the beginning of summer. I just need a parents signature with the pages read. There will be three categories: pre-K-2th, 3th-5th, and 6th-8th. If teenagers older than 8th grade are interesting in a reading contest, just let me know. The last day you can bring in pages read will be the 12th of July. The 15th of July I’ll announce the winners, give out prizes, and have water games for all ages to enjoy.

New books on CD

We have a couple new books on CD: “No Rest For the Dead”, “Capitol Murder” by Phillip Margolin, “Mistress of the Game” by Tilly Bagshawe and Sidney Sheldon, “Every Breath You Take” by Gilroy, and “Back Fire” by Catherine Coulter. These were all donated by Brenda Cullinan.

Library Upgrade

Please excuse the mess in the library. The children’s section is getting an upgrade thanks to our wonderful art students and teacher. The most exciting part is the mural they plan on painting on the library wall. Again, please excuse the mess. Thanks!

Overdrive

Arthur Library has recently joined the Overdrive group. For those of you who don’t know what it is, it’s a way for you to check out book electronically via e-reader (kindle, ipad, etc.) for free. For those of you who are already implementing it, I hope you are enjoying the program. If you have any questions at all, I’m very happy to try and figure out the answer for you. E-books now available at our library

Arthur Library has just became a partner in Overdrive, a free online library. Some of you may know what this is already, but for those of you that don’t, it is a colaboration of libraries that provide e-books for their patrons with no charge. E-books are books that you can read or listen to electronically. You are going to need three things to read/listen to e-books. First, you’ll need a type of electronic device such as, smart phones, computers, laptops, tablets, etc. Second, you’ll need internet access(you will actually be downloading the book to your electronic device, so you’ll only need internet access when you are actually downloading the book or looking at the website). Third, you’ll need software. This will be easiest if you come in and I can help you with this part. If you’re a little more independent and feel you know what you’re doing you’ll just need your username and password to start. The website you will be going to is http://nebraska.lib.overdrive.com . I’m going to try and add this link to our website. You can go ahead and call me to get your information. I’m at the library from 2-5 p.m. Mon. thru Fri., but if this doesn’t work for you, you can just call me at 308-289-5574. We are still working out all of the kinks and aren’t actually going live until November 16, 2012, so please bare with me as I am learning this as I go also. It’s a very exciting new feature for our library, especially for those of you who have difficulty getting to the library, and I hope you enjoy it. If you have any questions at all you can either come see me or just give me a call.

So many people have been donating books lately. Belinda Daly just recently donated quite a few Michael Connelly books and Stephen White. Carolyn Cerny has also donated quite a few books along with Brenda Cullinan donating pretty much our entire books-on-cds. Many more people have also donated to the library which have added wonderfully to our collection. It’s people like this that keep this library going. So come on in and see all of our new books.
