New Library News

You’ve probably noticed the changes in the library. We are becoming automated, meaning everything will now be on the computer. It’s going to be nice for a couple of reasons, but mainly because the books will all be on the internet and you’ll be able to look at what we have along with what you’ve read, from home. The website is . Please understand, though, that this is not just Arthur’s library but a collaboration of libraries in the Panhandle. If you would like a overview of the website and how it works, I would be happy to help. I’m here 2-5 p.m. Mon. – Fri (except for home game days).
Also, we acquired two new computers through a Gate’s Grant thanks to Carolyn Cerny’s hard work. Tara Hanna also donated a wonderful computer desk that we will be using for one of the computers. They will be open to public use very shortly.

Summer Reading Program

22 June 2011

The Summer Reading Program will be on Wednesday the 29th of June. Children up to 2nd grade start at 1 p.m. and 3rd grade and up will start at 2 p.m. We will be meeting the 6th, 13th, and 27th of July also. As for the reading contest kids can start bringing in their pages read at any time. You can count the pages you’ve been reading since the beginning of summer. I just need a parents signature with the pages read. There will be three categories: pre-K-2th, 3th-5th, and 6th-8th.  The last day you can bring in pages read will be the 14th. The 27th of July I’ll announce the winners, give out prizes, and have water games for all ages to enjoy.

We’ve gotten in some new books for the library. In the McNaughton section we have: Union Quilters by Jennifer Chiaverini, Treachery in Death by J.D. We also have Angel:Maximum Ride Series by James Patterson, The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest by Stieg Larsson, House by Ted Dekker and Frank Peretti, Monster by Frank Peretti, Heaven Is For Real by Marc Brown (donated by Marlene Larson), All the Winters That Have Been by Evan Maxwell (donated by Joanne Kondy), The MacGregors by Nora Roberts (donated by Joanne Kondy), and many wonderful Junior Fiction books (which were donated by someone I would love to thank).

Recently, Nicole Needham donated some wonderful children’s books to our library. They consist of Arthur books, Magic School Bus, Pooh, Sesame Street, Walt Disney and many more. Arthur County Library would like to send out a warm thankyou for her generousity.

The library would like to thank the Arthur Area Community Foundation for their generous donation of $1300. This money will go towards matching the funds required by the Gates Grant. This grant has made it possible to purchase two new computers for our library, one we have already acquired and other one will soon be purchased. These computers are wonderful assets to our library for the use of our patrons. We cannot thank the Arthur Area Community Foundation enough for helping us with this funding. Thank you!
