Amanda Peña is the new library director. A longtime resident of Portland, she began her career at the library in high school as a clerk for Temecula Public Library in Southern California. With a 20 year career in libraries, she’s done everything from driving a bookmobile to helping incarcerated youth find their love of reading.
For the last 14 years, she worked at the Hillsboro Public Library, a suburb of Portland, Oregon, in a variety of roles with her previous job as the Training and Learning Librarian Supervisor. She loved living in the Pacific Northwest, but she and her family decided to move to Omaha in October to be closer to the family for their two-year-old daughter.
She is passionate about the important role of public libraries in developing vibrant and engaged communities. She is excited to meet everyone and to learn more about the Ashland community.
