3D Printing F.A.Q.

How do I print?

The 3D printer can print various objects from: toys, cases, plant pots, 3D models, key chains, and more. https://www.thingiverse.com/. and https://www.tinkercad.com/. Both provide multiple downloadable files that can be downloaded onto a USB drive.

How do I print for my 3D print?

The cost per 3D printed item is 10 cents per gram. APL will provide a scale to weigh your printed object. If you are supplying approved filament, you will not be charged a fee. You may pay for your print in person by cash or card at a checkout station in the library. Please note that there will be a $1.90 convenience fee while paying with a card.

What colors are available?

PLA Filament is available in a variety of colors but subject to availability. Limited to one color per print.

Colors available: Black, Red, Blue, Dark Green, and Neon Green.

How long will it take to print my 3D object?

Please acknowledge that time to process a 3D printed object varies from size and complexity of an object. Note that jobs cannot take longer than 4 hours. We will notify you when your object is ready to pick up.

What are the procedures for using the 3D printer?

Ashland Public Library’s 3D printers may be used only for lawful purposes. They may not be used to create weapons or materials that are:

  • Prohibited by local, state, or federal law.
  • Unsafe, harmful, dangerous, or which pose a threat to the well-being of others.
  • Obscene or inappropriate for the library environment.
  • In violation of the terms of use of the manufacturer of the 3D printer.
  • In violation of another person’s property rights. For example, the printers will not be used to reproduce objects or materials that are subject to copyright, patent, or trademark protection.

APL reserves all rights to:

  • Review and approve all materials before printing.
  • Stop printing or resize requests due to time and printer capabilities.
  • Limit the number of print requests.

How our process works:

Step 1: Create a 3D model or object you would like us to print.

Step 2: Save your work in .STL or .OBJ format.

Step 3: Fill out and submit the Submit a Job Form.

Step 4: The Library will print your item.

Step 5: Staff will contact you when your print is ready for pick up.

Unclaimed items will become the property of the Library. GPLD is not responsible for failed 3D prints and will not be liable for functional failure of or injuries or property damage caused by objects or materials made through the use of 3D printers.

How do I create a 3D model?:

There are a variety of software options available that allow for output for the .STL or .OBJ file formats that are used to print from our 3D printer.
