The monthly meeting of the Broadwater Library Board will be held on Monday, September 23, 2013 at 7:00 p.m.

The library has been contacted by Professor Oliver B. Pollak, Ph.D., J.D. of UNO in Omaha. He is doing research regarding the life of Dr. Moses D. Pass, MD., Broadwater’s doctor from 1917 until he was no longer able to practice, then passed away in 1948. Anyone with information about him, his practice, or his family in published directories or any social memorabilia as well as information regarding rail service to Broadwater at that time is asked to contact the library or Professor Pollak. Please help if you can.

The Library has received a copy of The Weight of Small Things by Sherri
Wood Emmons, because of it being won in a Goodreads/Reading Group Choices
random drawing.

Summer is nearly over, even though the hot weather continues. School is
back in session. The kids reading program is finished for 2013.

It’s not too early to get a head start on the fall adult book group
selection, which is the “One Book, One Nebraska” adult selection for 2013,
O Pioneers! by Willa Cather. When we have a date set for this, additional
copies will be borrowed from the Nebraska Library Commission. The
Broadwater Public Library has one copy of it in its collection, along with
many other titles by this prolific Nebraska author. It was originally
published in 1913, and is the first of her Prairie Trilogy, including Song
of the Lark and My Antonia – which are in the Broadwater Public Library as
well.

Other information is available through your library as well. If you need
help or recipes for canning or preserving food, or recipes for making
jellies or jams, it is available in print and online. For instance, the
USDA has published USDA Complete Guide to Home Canning, which is free for
download at http://nchfp.uga.edu/publications/publications_usda.html
