January 31, 2014 is Chinese New Year. 2014 is the Year of the Horse.
On Friday, January 31st at 4:30 We will be having a program for children to tell them about Chinese New Year, and it being the year of the horse. We will read 2 stories from books available in the Library:
- Bringing in the New Year by Grace Lin, a picture book about how a Chinese-American boy and his family celebrate Chinese New Year.
- An Excerpt from The World According to Horses by Stephen Budiansky, which tells of society among horses.
We will have a coloring contest of a Chinese horse. All are welcome to attend. The program will be about 40 minutes.
What is Chinese New Year though without Chinese food? On display is the book, Fine Art of Chinese Cooking by Dr. Lee Su Jan. The library has handouts of Chinese food, including a recipe for Shanghai Goose, which works well with Canadian geese, as well as duck or chicken. The handouts contain only ingredients available in Bridgeport.
I would also call your attention to a number of new books, especially for teens. See the What’s New page on this blog.
