Book Review- Grenade by Alan Gratz

Grenade takes place in World War ll during the American invasion of Okinawa, which lasted months, (83 days). Hideki, a main character in the story is a Okinawa protagonist and loses many family members and close soldiers. His school is destroyed from a bomb and the boys are enlisted in the Japanese army and each given two grenades. The Japanese army had sent Hideki and the other boys out to fight against an experienced, well-equipped American killing machine with nothing more than a few days’ training and the two grenades each. They were expected to die. This book gives you an insight of what trauma these soldiers went through. I enjoy reading books like this that gives us an idea of what went on in the War. If you like books like this I advise you to read this book.
