We had a wonderful visit and exciting news at our library this month!  Mr Wyman & Kevin Poppe From Great Plains Communication came to our library representing the Hunt Family who own the company.  They have offered our library a challenge.  If we can raise $50,000 by December 15, 2013 they will give us $25,000 towards our new library building.  I am reaching out to you, to please pass the word alo…ng, this is a goal we can not miss.  We will be deciding on an architech this next week and plans will be drawn up soon for our new library, so please continue to support this community who so deserves this.
We continue to have fun with our pre-school story hour on Fridays and this May 3rd will be our last until school resumes in the fall.  We hope to see a big crowd as Mrs. Wagner can not be here, Mrs. Bobinmeyer has volunteered to read for us and we are looking forward to that.
The Southwest Nebraska Community Betterment Corporation came and did a survey at our library for those community members that are interested in improving their households.   Amy Thelander visited with those that came and answered their questions.  Right now she states they are just checking out the interest so she can apply for a grant.  If she is approved for the grant the SWNCBC will do more to inform us of what we can do to qualify
Another month gone and we are all looking forward to a wonderful Spring & nicer weather.  Our PreSchool Story Hour has been a huge success thanks to Mrs. Pat Wagner for reading to our kids & Lesa Tines great advertising and of course participation.  Our next story hour is April 5, 2013 at 10 am, please come join us for a fun story and snack.  The community betterment corporation will be at our li…brary the 17th 3-3:30 for anyone wanting to discuss the interest and need of an owner occupied housing rehabilitation grant for low to moderate income home owners within the communities of Hitchcock County. The 19th of April the Elementary School will be visiting our library to discuss the plans for our new library and what they would like to see in it.  We are really looking forward to this. We will be having two computer classes offered at our library soon too, so watch for those dates.  We will be having a class of Basic Excell and another one on Pinterest, can’t wait for these. Check out our New book & DVD list in our events calendar.  As everyone knows we are continuing our fund raising so please keep us in mind and continue to advocate for us.
Oh My Goodness, can you believe how exciting Feburary has been for the Culbertson Library! Our pre-school story hour held on the first Friday of every month from 10-10:30 continues to grow.  It is wonderful to see one of our very own retired teachers take such an interest in our youth still and our libraries growth.  Mrs. Pat Wagner reads to our childrn and really does such a wonderful job keepin…g their interest!  This is not as easy as she makes it look!  Thank you so much Mrs. Wagner, we are so lucky to have you! :)
Dana & I also spoke to our women’s club this month and what a wonderful gracious set of ladies!  Thanks to them also!
Ok, now on to the issue everyone is talking about.  Our Library held a fund raiser on the 10th of Feburary at the Ag building at our very own fairgrounds titled Big & Small Fun For All.  There is absolutely no way to express the support we were given.  We raised close to $20,000.00 that night alone in sales, personal donations around $8,000.00.  With previous donations that night we were at around $52,000.00.  Well guess what our goal is $250,000.00 & we are now with donations still coming in at $162,000.00.  We are well on our way to making this new library happen thanks to all of you.  Big or small please continue to send us your donations, of course I personally am hoping to reach this goal asap, so we may start construction this spring.  I am still working hard on grants but those will not be heard from until around October 2013.  We can always use the grant money on other things the new library will need such as shelving, seating, landscaping etc…  This is something we are so excited about, the programming we will be able to offer is going to really help this community.  Please send your donations to Culbertson Community Foundation New Library, 507 New York, P O Box 327, Culbertson, NE.  69024 or contact me with any questions!
I also have to put a huge THANK YOU out to the girls in our Friends of the Library Group.  What hard workers & just such a huge support! :)

A huge Thank You!!! Out to all those people, businesses and friends who helped make the New Culbertson Public Library Fund Raiser a success!! In all we have raised a little over $54,000.00. We have $154,000.00 towards our goal of $250,000.00 so please keep those donations coming. Big or small they mean the world to us and our hopes of building this spring.

Come join us for the first Fun for all Big and Small fund raiser for our New Culbertson Public Library.  We are having a pulled pork supper from Cal Seigfried cooked by Pete Dack with sides, desserts and drink provided by our local ladies clubs and churches & pepsi company.  We will be having door prizes, raffle, live and silent auction that Johnny Walker will be handling as well as live entertainment by Fred Kennedy & Courtney Quint and the Jonathan Scott band, we are hoping to have a small area for dancing to if you would like.  There will also be some local vendors that are generously donating part of the profits from any sales they make to our project.  This will all be held February 10, 2013 at the Culbertson Fairgrounds community building from 5-7:30pm.  Come support your library and community even if you don’t want to participate there will be donation forms available for any monetary donations you would like to make.  Just make sure you mark them if they are in honor or memory of a loved one.   Looking forward to a nice evening with you all.

January 2013 already past.  Wow!  When I was young you never thought about time going by, now it seems to go so quickly.  But I know we all strive to enjoy every minute of it. :)   It was another good month for our library, although story hour was slim due to the flu going around.  Glad to see all our kids up and around again.  We are getting ready for our New Public Library Fund Raiser on February 10, …2013 from 5-7:30pm at the Culbertson Fair Ground community building.  We are hoping for good weather and a huge turnout, please come support this/our community.  It is going to be fast paced fun evening.  A free will donation pulled pork supper with sides donated by our community ladies.  Live music will entertain you while you visit our vendors booths and bid on items donated by area businesses for our silent and live auction.  We are hoping to have some door prizes as well as a raffle so come have a good time.  There will be forms available for anyone wishing to make a monetary donation as well.  It will also be available on this page Tuesday February 4, 2013 to print out and mail to us at 507 New York, P O Box 327.  Thank you for all your support, with all of us working and donating I have no doubt we will reach our goal of $150,000.00.
Update: Febuary 3, 2013 Fund Raiser for the New Culbertson Public Library has been changed to Febuary 10, 2013. It will be held at the Ag building Culbertson Fair grounds from 5:00-7:30pm Free will donation supper, entertainment and silent auction.
Anyone out there that has any big ticket items they would like to donate to our cause, please contact me. We have several small basket items but need bigger items to help us reach our goal. cindeewagner@yahoo.com

I am hoping everyone had a beautiful and safe white Christmas!  :)

This month please come in and check out our new books and DVD’s and utilize our computer lab, we would love to see you all!

This month we are working hard to collect items to auction off at our fund raiser for the new library coming up February 3, 2013.  We are planning a very busy 3 hours.  Right now the plan is from 5:00 to 5:45 p.m. we will be having a pulled pork supper with a free will donation.  All of our community ladies have gotten together and will be donating sides for you to enjoy.  Travis Gesselman will be manning the smoker and working hard to make the pork delicious.  At 5:45 p.m. we will be having a silent auction with tons of things to choose from that our girls have been collecting.  Everyone has been working so hard and I am so proud of all the support our library has gotten in getting ready for this event.  Jonny Walker has generously offered to help with the auction and we are looking forward to it.  At 6:45 p.m. the silent auction will end and we will have musical entertainment to enjoy for an hour.  At the end of that hour around 7:45 p.m. the basket and item winners will be announced by Johnny.   Our goal for the new library is $150,000 so we have a long ways to go and of course are hoping for a great turnout!   It would be wonderful if we could reach our goal by March to start a Spring construction date, just in time for summer reading with the kids. Unfourtunetly, we received word that we were not awarded the Kewit grant so this means we are trying to do this with community support only.  In March we have one more chance at a $20,000 grant and we will pray for good news.  It seems things are tough all over so state and goverment cutbacks effect what we can apply for.  I have contacted our Nebraska Library Commision in hopes that there was some help out there, but they assure me that we have applied for everything that is available.  I have said before how important this library is to this community, with space available there is so much more we can do in programming for young and old alike, as well as educational programs, game night, movie night etc…  We look forward to your support!

Another month and no moisture, don’t know about the rest of you but wish other parts of the States would share.  I mean really who needs 10 inches dumped all at once.  Share a little.  :)   Ok off we go another busy month we have several new books for adult and youth as well as new DVD’s, come check them out.  Our numbers continue to do well and am soooo looking forward to the day soon when our new library is done and have the space to accommodate all our wonderful patrons who come in just to socialize, play games, homework, read or research.  I absolutely love to see everyone.  We are looking forward to hearing from one of the grants we applied for in December, they tell me they will let me know by December’s end.  Everyone keep their fingers crossed and lots of prayers.  Our city, our patrons and myself are seriously hoping to break ground this Spring.  Once funds are in place we will be advertising for bids.  I can’t wait.  Again money is needed so dig deep and help us out.  Everyone please come check out our Christmas booth at the Ag building (fair grounds), on December 2nd.  There is going to be soup supper, Santa Claus and you can see our poster board of projected new library and floor plan.  Unfortunetely I will not be there, but our wonderful library board will be covering showing off our plans and handing out fliers.  Any questions please feel free to Email me at cindeewagner@yahoo.com  I love hearing from you all!  Will see you once back on my feet.

Wow, I cannot stress enough how quickly times goes by.  Another month over and boy was it busy here at our library.  I absolutely cannot express enough how much we are enjoying all the kids and adult patrons that have been utilizing our library.  Our numbers continue to grow and the support is amazing, not only for those of us working here at the library but for our community!  It is wonderful to see so many happy faces enjoying what seems sometimes like the lost art of reading.  Thanks everyone.  Of course our funding raising to build a new library is under way.  This is where I need to ask for some help.  I have been wanting to get out and about introducing myself to those in the community who may not know me or about everything our library has to offer.  Unfortunetely my health has gotten in the way and I have not been able to accomplish all that I had intended.  According to a few medical instructions it may be January before I am completely on my feet and moving at my old medium slow speed.  lol  So this is where I can use everyone’s help to spread the word on what we want to do for our community and don’t be afraid to ask for help in raising the funds we will need.  The new library is going to offer this community so much more that we are truly hoping to pull this off, it is a lot of money but working together I have faith that we can do this, and reap the benefits for years and years to come.  If anyone has any questions please email me, call me, or stop in at our library for a visit and I will be happy to talk about all the projects we are excited to get started in a new larger building.  To update you a little we have sent in for two grants and are hoping they will see how desperately we need this and choose us for a grant gift.  These grants help by matching what we can raise 3-1.  That means if we can reach our goal of $300,000.00 they will give us $100,000.00.  If we raise just $20,000.00 they will give us $200.00.  So as you can see the more we raise the  more they will give to help.  Of course all of this we are going to try to accomplish by March 2013.  Big goal, but hopfully attainable with everyone helping and working together.  We have posted a sign at the K-Store with information and hopefully it will get a lot of looks and support.  For those of you who don’t know you make checks or memorials to Culbertson Community Foundation, for new library.  507 New York P. O. Box 327 Culbertson, NE.  69024  Don’t forget to check us out on facebook to and again thanks for everyone’s support.

Our library has also this month reached a fantastic goal!  What an accomplishment for a community less than 600 people strong.  It just shows the support we are getting for you all!  We have been certified as an Accreditated Public Library at the enhanced level.  Which hopfully means a little more state help.  This has never been done in Culbertson before so well done!

We also had some really cute trick or treaters at the library this year and I’m looking forward to adding their pictures to our facebook page.  You guys were amazing!   Good luck to us all and hope to see you all at the library!
