On June 16 we celebrated Flag Day with a story, America, I’m So Glad You Were Born, written by Ainsley Earhardt. It is a story that celebrates everything about our nation. The book encourages children to discover the people, places and values that make America special. The 3 and 4 year olds made a patriotic shooting star and the 5 and 6 year olds made a wreath with red and blue stars to celebrate America’s birthday.

On Wednesday, June 17, The Great Dinosaur Sleepover by Linda Bailey was read. It is about a boy, Jake, who wants a dinosaur sleepover. Unfortunately, on the day of his party all of his friends are sick, so his party seems to be close to extinction. Stop by the library and check out these books to see if Jake’s party becomes a blast from the prehistoric past. The children made dinosaur feet for their craft.

We were lucky enough to have a prehistoric dinosaur visit our story time.

June has been a busy month so far. On June 1st we started Story time with the 3 & 4 year olds in one group and the 5 & 6 year olds in another group. Story time started with “Dinosaur Day” by Diana Murray. Taking a quick break from story time, the children came by the droves to the Petting Zoo hosted by the Way Out West 4-H Club on Tuesday June 2. They also kept Doris the balloon lady busy making balloon animals. Back to story time on June 8. Other than dinosaurs, the children learned that wooly mammoths also lived thousands of years ago. We read the story “Samson In the Snow” which focused on friendship and kindness. On Wednesday, June 10th the children learned of a new kind of dinosaur. This particular one really like pizza and who would guess, his name was “Pizzasaurus” by Tammi Sauer. What would story time be without crafts. So far the children have gone home with a dinosaur headband, a wooly mammoth and a pizza that they created for their favorite dinosaur.
