We are looking forward to our final pre-eclipse event on August 14th from 7-8 pm at the Elmwood Murdock Elementary school in Elmwood, NE. We have canceled the viewing party which was to be held during the eclipse on August 21st. It turns out that since we are so close to the actual path of totality that everybody is planning on driving south to actually experience the total eclipse!
We’ll keep you updated on when our viewing glasses arrive if you need to pick up a pair to view the eclipse safely. REMEMBER: Do not look at the sun without special protection. This can permanently damage your eyes.
Come to the library on Monday evening and find out all about it!
We are moving ahead with our Eclipse 2017 events. We have changed the date of the first event. We will have an informational session on July 24th at 7:00 pm here at the library which will include refreshments. Please start planning now to attend our “Solar Eclipse-2017 Family Night” informational activity at Elmwood Public Library on Monday, July 24th at 7:00 pm. On Monday, August 14th we will be hosting an event from 7-8 at the Elmwood-Murdock Elementary School that will delve into the “facts & fiction” regarding the eclipse. There will be crafts and activities for children at both events. You are also invited to join us at the library from 11-12 noon on Monday, August 21st for our “Viewing Party”! We are still working out the details so please keep checking in for further information
This summer, we will learn about how to build a better world. We will check out big buildings like the Eiffel Tower and we will build small buildings with Legos! We will discover ways that we can help “Build a Better World” by the things we do and how we work with others. We will do all of this while we do art projects, play games, check out some cool building materials and—of course—read!

On Monday, August 21th at approximately 11:25 AM we will find ourselves on the edge of a rare celestial event, a total eclipse of the sun. This is unique because it will travel through the United States from Salem, Oregon to Charleston South Carolina, dissecting Nebraska from Alliance in the Northwest corner to Falls City in the Southeast tip of the state. Elmwood is located approximately 4 miles north of the “path of totality”. We will be able to see an eclipse where the moon will almost cover the sun completely.
Elmwood Public Library is working with The Elmwood-Murdock School’s science teacher, Laura Stock, to give you the very best information and view-ability possible in our area. We are planning two events which you and your family can have some hands on activities to help make these events extra special.
