Holdrege Area Public Library Director Search

Thriving Midwestern community with a population of 5,600 is seeking a library director. Must be an energetic individual with a strong public service orientation to supervise and develop staff, prepare and manage budget, maintain community relationships, develop programming, implement technology, write grants, and oversee collection development. S/he should have proven success in supervision, budget management and staff development.

A dynamic leader is needed with a passion concerning the future of libraries. Self-motivation, enthusiasm and flexibility are essential.

The Holdrege Area Public Library is located in south central Nebraska, 150 miles west of Lincoln. The library serves all of Phelps County which has a total population of about 9,700. We are an active member of the Pioneer Consortium, a statewide automation resource running on Koha. We have 10 staff members, circulate about 9,500 items per month and host over 16,000 internet sessions per year. Originally a Carnegie Library, most areas of the facility have been renovated.

Requirements: A MLS from an ALA-accredited program is preferred; however, a Bachelor’s Degree will be considered if the candidate also possesses 3+ years managerial experience in a public library setting or similar work environment. Exhibit knowledge of budget planning and general library operations. Excellent written and oral communication skills are necessary as well as a commitment to exceptional customer service. Must be able to work independently and maintain excellent relations with staff, board of trustees, and members of the City Council and the County Board of Commissioners as well as the public at large.
