OPEN HOUSE CELEBRATION

HOOPER PUBLIC LIBRARY CELEBRATES ANNIVERSARY WITH OPEN HOUSE

“POP ON IN” to the HOOPER PUBLIC LIBRARY this Saturday ~ 9:00a.m -NOON
This month the Hooper Public Library celebrates 10 years at the current location and the one year anniversary for Director Cherie Anderson. The library is also getting ready to implement some exciting new technology. To celebrate and show appreciation to their patrons there will be an Open House this Saturday October 22nd from 9:00a.m.-Noon.
Please come the Hooper Public Library for FREE popcorn & refreshments, a Puppet Show at 10:00 a.m. and to put your name into the drawing for various prizes for adults and children.
HPL will soon be offering a program called “Nebraska Overdrive”. This will enable patrons to check out E-books for their E-readers, Kindles, Nooks, iPad, iPod touch, computers, iPhones, etc. This will be free of charge when you are a patron of the Hooper Public Library. Please visit the website for general information on how it works http://nebraska.lib.overdrive.com
Also, starting soon the card catalog will be online so that patrons will be able to access HPL’s database and see if they have a book or movie and whether or not it’s available, from the comfort of your own home (or wherever you have access to the internet).
If you haven’t been to the Hooper Library lately maybe you haven’t seen some of the improvements that have been made in the past year. The library has gotten a bright, fresh coat of paint inside, a hand-painted Seuss mural in the Children’s corner where you will find a table & colorful chairs, beanbags and lounge chairs and of course the PUPPET THEATER which is available for children to play with anytime. Director Cherie Anderson has also cleared out the backroom by having a surplus sale last summer which raised enough money to purchase a new patron computer and a large book order. There is now a nice sign on the entrance door that indicates whether the library is open or not and states the library hours. Most recently the lettering on the front window was replaced.
Other things that have happened over the past year include; participation in the Main Street Christmas Extravaganza last December, (watch for details on that again this year), $1000.00 Elizabeth Mulliken grant in March, a successful Summer Reading Program, new Junior Book club, monthly story time for Preschool & Toddlers, FREE Wi-Fi and meeting room usage, and a longer checkout time for movies and magazines. Our adult book club continues to meet the 3rd Monday of each month as well.
In addition to the library’s website -http://libraries.ne.gov/hooper/ you can also find HPL on Facebook.
Library staff Lois Shulenberg and Kay Livingston are a tremendous help to Director Cherie Anderson since she also has a full-time position at Logan View Elementary as the Media Para.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my first year as Director of Hooper Public Library. I look forward to many more years at this job. Come see us this Saturday to see our all of our improvements and to get more information on our upcoming technology! If you don’t have a library card now is the time to get one. Any adult in the Logan View district is welcome to sign up for a free library card at Hooper Public Library.”
