{"id":1208,"date":"2014-06-27T15:54:41","date_gmt":"2014-06-27T21:54:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/libraries.ne.gov\/imperial\/?p=1208"},"modified":"2014-12-01T12:09:55","modified_gmt":"2014-12-01T19:09:55","slug":"summer-reading-kicks-off","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/libraries.ne.gov\/imperial\/2014\/06\/27\/summer-reading-kicks-off\/","title":{"rendered":"Summer Reading Kicks Off"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We had a lot of fun this week\u00a0experimenting with straws!<\/p>\n<p>The kids:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>discovered how vocal chords work<\/li>\n<li>found out that the longer the straw is, the harder it is to suck up liquid<\/li>\n<li>used a thaumatrope to see that sometimes the signal from the eyes to the brain gets confused<\/li>\n<li>constructed a wind-powered car<\/li>\n<li>built hoop gliders<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Remember&#8230; all kids entering 2nd through 6th grades are invited to join us Thursday mornings starting again July 12 from 10:00-11:00 for some free experimenting!!!<\/p>\n<p>Also, we invite them to join us Tuesday afternoons @ 4:00 for a movie. \u00a0All movies are rated either G or PG. \u00a0Drinks with lids welcome.<\/p>\n<p>Programs for kids ages 3 through entering 1st grade are Friday mornings from 9:00-10:00.<\/p>\n<p>As of June 27th, the kids are in the lead, currently out-reading the adults by 14 books! \u00a0Be sure to stop in and ask about this community wide competition.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We had a lot of fun this week\u00a0experimenting with straws!
