The office has three new books.

Transforming Our Image, Building Our Brand by Valerie J. Gross. This book focuses on the way we market libraries and how to dispel some of the misconceptions about libraries. It’s broken down into two sections – “The What and the Why” and “Implementation – The How”. The chapter on strategic planning could be a great resource for the new accreditation standards that will be released soon.

Librarian’s Guide to Passive Programming: Easy and Affordable Activities for All Ages by Emily T. Wichman. This book explains how to use passive programming as an inexpensive way to showcase library services for multiple different age groups. Broad ideas include writing, exchanges, and get creative. Each programming idea includes information on needed supplies, how to make it happen, and evaluation.

Crash Course in Library Services for Seniors by Anne Robers and Stephanie G. Bauman. Many libraries have sections or areas specifically for children or teens, so why not do the same for Baby Boomers and senior citizens? Get ideas for how to meet the needs of these groups through innovative services and programming.

Call Shelia at the office 402-564-1586 or email nelibrarysystem@gmail.com to request any of the books.

Freegal contains over three million songs, new and old. The largest part of the collection is from Sony Music Entertainment and the rest is currently made up of independent labels. New songs are added regularly.

With Freegal, each registered patron may download up to three song titles per week, DRM-free. That means that they never have to be returned or deleted, yet every song is still available to your other patrons. If your ILS does not support patron authentication, Library Ideas will handle authentication for you.

The subscription fee is based on annual circulation statistics. Depending on the number of libraries that participate, a discount may come into effect. Three libraries currently subscribe which will be counted toward the discount opportunity.

12 libraries = 10% discount
15 libraries = 15% discount
20 libraries = 20% discount
30 libraries = 25% discount
40 libraries = 30% discount
60 libraries = 40% discount
Born a slave in New York State around 1797 and given the name Isabella by her owner, she had already fled to freedom when New York’s 1827 anti-slavery law officially emancipated her. Deeply religious, she adopted the name Sojourner Truth and became a traveling lay preacher and lecturer. Though she was illiterate, her extraordinary speaking skills electrified audiences and brought her widespread fame.
