Gifts and Donations

Gift and Donations Information Policy

Book and Material Donations

The Library welcomes donations of most books and audiovisual items in good condition.  Materials will be added to our collection if they are needed and meet the criteria of the collection development policy.  Other materials will be sold at our ongoing book sale, given to other libraries or discarded.

Gift collections will be accepted by the Director, with the understanding that the collection may not be kept intact.  Gift periodical subscriptions will be evaluated to determine their suitability for adding to the collection.

Memorials and Monetary Donations

When monetary memorials or donations are given to the Library, every effort possible by the director and librarians will be made to determine whether it is the intent of the donor to donate the funds to the regular Library fund or to the Library Foundation.  Donations to the Library Foundation should be made payable to the North Bend Library Foundation and may be mailed or dropped off at the library and we will deliver it to them.

Gifts given to the Library of substantial cash offerings, securities, bequests, or real property will be handled by the Director, who, with the Board of Trustees, will work out the terms of acceptance compatible with Library policies, the donors’ intent, and applicable laws.

For Tax Purposes

The Library will, if requested, provide a written acknowledgement of gifts. In Accordance with income tax regulations, the library will leave the determination of a donation value to the donor.
