Digital Doorway Open House on January 7th

database group.pngThe public is invited to stop in the library’s meeting room on Thursday, January 7th from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM to try out the many eResources that the library has available online for use by library cardholders at home and in the library.  Computers will be set up and staff will be available to help access and use Consumer Reports, Gale courses, Freegal Music, My Heritage and others.  People are welcome to bring their mobile devices for assistance in using these resources on your personal device.

Many library card holders have used their cards to access Nebraska Overdrive Libraries to borrow eBooks and audiobooks but fewer people have taken advantage of free music downloads through Freegal or taken online classes through Gale courses.  People who have come to the library looking for home improvement books or small engine repair manuals should be pleased that the library now offers online resources in these subject areas in addition to the picture friendly auto repair database offered for several years.

Some of these eResources are made available through state funding and selected by the Nebraska Library Commission.  Others, such as Nebraska Overdrive Libraries,  Gale Courses, Freegal Music, Consumer Reports, auto repair and small engine repair, are provided through subscriptions paid out of  the North Platte Library budget.  The North Platte Genealogy Society has provided some genealogy specific databases, including Library Edition that is accessible within the library.

The open house will be showcasing the eResources but library computer staff are willing to answer questions at other times as well.  Our computer area is always staffed and is currently open until 8:30 PM on Sunday through Thursday and until 5:30 PM on Friday and Saturday.
