Internet Use Policy

Objective:  The Polk Public Library will provide access to the Internet as a means to enhance the information and learning opportunities for the citizens of the library’s service area.  The Library Advisory Board has established the “Internet Use Policy” to ensure appropriate and effective use of this resource.  Access to the Internet is available to all patrons through WiFi and DSL cable.  These services may be restricted at any time if a patron is not consistent with the guidelines.

Guidelines:

Users may use the Internet for research and acquisition of information to a address their educational, vocational, cultural, and recreational needs.

Users may use the Internet for receipt and transmission of electronic mail as long as they use a free service which is established and maintained by them; the library is unable to manage electronic accounts for any organization or individual.

Internet use if offered in thirty (30) minute sessions on a first-come basis; each user is allowed one session.  If there are no other patrons waiting for the service at the end of a session, the user can have another session.

Users will respect and uphold copyright laws and all other applicable laws and regulations; they will not use it for illegal purposes.

Users will respect the right and privacy of others by not accessing private files.  Patrons must delete any documents they established while on the computer.

Users agree not to incur any costs for the library through their use of the Internet service.

Users shall not create and /or distribute computer viruses over the internet.

Users shall not create new programs or alter basic computer set up.

Users shall not deliberately or willfully cause damage to computer equipment, programs, or parameters.

Users shall not remove any computer accessories to be used on another computer or remove accessories from the building.

If pages are printed, patrons will pay the listed cost for black or colored ink.  Patrons will pay for all pages whether the intent was to print more or in color.

Supervision By Staff

The Library staff reserves the right to supervise, monitor, or enforce penalties to any minor/s under 18 years old while in the library if parental guidance is unavailable.

Penalties In Violation To The Policy

Any violations to the Internet Use Policy will be reviewed by the Library Board.  The Library Board will decide penalties that will be imposed to the offender.  The Board may issue the loss of library privileges to a maximum of two weeks.
