Dr. Seuss Birthday Bash

Thursday, March 23, was the day Ponca children celebrated the birthday of Dr. Seuss at the Ponca Carnegie Library. The event, chaired by Melissa Ruhrer, attracted children and their parents to an evening of educational and fun activities, as well as good food.

According to Ruhrer, “We could not have sponsored this event without the tremendous support of many volunteers.” Volunteers included members of the Ponca High School National Honor Society, who performed a skit and led multiple fun and educational activities for the children.  Members of Friends of the Library wore festive red shirts and served food, which included pizzas from Cook’s Country Store and a birthday cake decorated by Paula Larson.

This year’s “Cat in the Hat,” Nate Ruhrer, led the children in a trivia game about Dr. Seuss. Trinity Greer served as an excellent “Thing One” and was an overall help to the children.

Library director, Beth Foulks, noted, “Face painting is always popular with the children, but this year the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) activities attracted a lot of attention. Even the older kids spent time engineering towers of plastic cups that impressed all the guests.”
