ONE BOOK ONE NEBRASKA 2012

The Rock County Public Library is inviting citizens to celebrate the literary richness of our state by reading“I Am a Man:“ Chief Standing Bear’s Journey for Justice by Joe Starita selected  as the 2012 One Book One Nebraska.   Standing Bear was a peaceful Ponca chief whose people were moved from the Niobrara River valley in Nebraska to Indian Territory in Oklahoma.  I Am a Man tells the story of Standing Bear’s return to Nebraska to bury his son in the Ponca homeland and the resulting trial in Omaha’s federal courthouse.  This book has been chosen by the adult book discussion group to discuss for their March selection on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at 4:30 p.m.  Copies of the title are available at the Library and members usually read the selected book before meeting for discussion.  Anyone may join this discussion by simply stopping by the Library to pick up a copy of the book.  Call 402-684-3800 to reserve a copy or e-mail rockcolib@abbnebraska.com.

Nebraska marks its eighth year of One Book One Nebraska, selecting and promoting a title for Nebraska citizens to read.  One Book One Nebraska 2012 is sponsored by the Nebraska Center for the Book, Nebraska Humanities Council, Nebraska Library Association, and Nebraska Library Commission.
