Services

  • Audiobook Collection
    RVLS owns over 500 circulating audiobook titles. System member libraries may borrow audiobooks (CD, MP3, and Playaway formats) for a loan period of 90 days. View the list of titles and then call the System office or email rvlsasst@inebraska.com to borrow or reserve titles.
  • Book Kits for Book Groups
    RVLS has many book sets to loan for student groups or Book Clubs.  See the list of RVLS Book Sets available.
  • Bulk Loans of Large Print Materials
    The System contracts with McCook Public Library and Hastings Public Library to provide bulk loans of large print materials. For an annual fee of $50, members libraries can receive up to 200 books. Contact the System office for more information.  See the bulk loan agreement here.
  • Consulting
    The System administrator is available by phone or for site visits to discuss library related problems or concerns.
  • Continuing Education
    The System provides workshops on topics of interest to public, school and academic librarians and public library boards. See our calendar for current continuing education events and System activities.
  • Cooperative Puppet Orders
    Several times a year, the System places a cooperative order for Folkmanis puppets. System member libraries are eligible for a discount. To view the Folkmanis online puppet catalog, go to www.folkmanis.com, then watch VALLEYTALK for cooperative order information.
  • e-Readers
    RVLS received a Library Improvement Grant to purchase 3 e-Readers. An additional e-Reader was purchased in 2012. This e-Reader kit is available for loan to member libraries to enable librarians to become familiar with the technology. The four devices in the RVLS kit are a Sony Pocket Reader, a Pandigital Novel, a Barnes and Noble Nook, and an Amazon Kindle. You will receive all four readers, a book titled No Shelf Required: E-Books in Libraries, and a folder full of information about the devices. The loan period is one week. You are responsible for postage to return the kit to RVLS or to the next site. Call or email the RVLS Office to request the kit.
  • Ellison Machines
    These handy machines cut out letters and shapes from paper, felt, cloth, thin cardboard, magnetic sheets, and foam. RVLS owns two Original and an Xtra-Large Ellison machine, plus 272 dies (including a 2″ alphabet/numbers and a 4″ alphabet/numbers). System members may check the machine and dies out for a month at a time. See a complete listing of all the RVLS dies. Call the RVLS office to set up a time to have the Ellison at your library.
  • Equipment Loan
    The Republican Valley Library System has available for loan to system member libraries the following equipment: Public Address System (Loan Policy) Laptop & LCD Projector (Loan Policy) Overhead Projector (Loan Policy) Digital Audio Player (Loan Policy) and six Flip Digital Video Cameras (Loan Agreement).   • Member Libraries List & Web Site Directory
    A quick listing of all RVLS libraries with links to the library’s Web site when available.
  • Newsletter
    VALLEYTALK, a quarterly newsletter, is distributed to 175 RVLS public librarians, trustees, school librarians and others interested in libraries. It is published February, May, August, & November.  Issues are available online.
  • Online Mailing List
    Staff at all member libraries can join the RVLS Online Mailing List by pointing your browser to http://nlc.nebraska.gov/lists/. Click on “Subscribe to a List”, select “RVLS”, and enter your information.
  • Professional Collection
    RVLS offers an array of professional materials designed to help librarians in their work, including books, DVD’s, and periodicals. Contact the System Office to borrow professional material by topic. System members are encouraged to recommend items for the professional collection. Please email pertinent information (title, author, ISBN, publisher, date of publication, etc.) to the System office.
  • Scholarships
    A number of scholarships for continuing education are available for System member librarians and media center staff. Both the Scholarship Policy and the Scholarship Application form are available for downloading. For more information or questions, please contact us.
  • “We Speak Your Language” Spanish Collections
    The Republican Valley Library System has 12 rotating collections of adult and children’s items in Spanish. Contact the System office if you would like to be included on the route.
  • Wii Gaming System
    The System has a Nintendo Wii for check-out.  We have recently added two dance pads and two different dancing games. Borrow the Wii to have fund with young and old in your library. (Loan Agreement) E-mail or call the RVLS Office to reserve the Wii.
