Schuyler Public library recently received nine new computers and nine new laptops for public use through the Library Broadband Builds Nebraska Communities project. The computers are installed and ready for use by the public. The computers can be used free of charge to hunt for jobs, access court records, find health information, take advantage of educational opportunities, explore small business options, etc. The computers and furnishings are valued at $32,000.
“New technologies have helped all libraries but have been especially important in our many rural communities,” said Rod Wagner, Nebraska Library Commission Director. “Public libraries are the most commonly used place (outside the home or office) for accessing the Internet. The broadband technology grant presents an unprecedented opportunity for many Nebraska public libraries to upgrade their public computing capacity for serving community residents.”
Over the next several months, many training sessions will be offered in the center. The first two sessions of “Computer Tips and Tricks” will be offered on February 28th from 7-8pm and February 29th from 8:30-9:45 am. Please register in advance.
This project was supported in part by the Department of Commerce National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP), funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, as administered by the Nebraska Library Commission.
