Residents of Colfax County may obtain a library card free of charge after completing an application form and providing a driver’s license or current proof of residency.  A parent or guardian must sign the application for a child who is in the eighth grade or younger. Lost, broken, or mutilated cards may be replaced for $1.50.

Patrons must present library card at time of checkout.  Patrons with an adult card may check out 8 items.  Patrons with a youth card may check out 5 items.  DVDs may be checked out by adults and checkouts are limited to 3 per family at any given time.

Loan privilege may be denied to any patron assessed a fee of $5.00 or more.  This will include, but not be limited to: unpaid fines, outstanding overdue library materials, unpaid assessments for lost or damaged library materials.

A fine of 5 cents per day per item is charged for each day a book, periodical, CD, or audio book is overdue. 

A fine of $1.00 per day is charged when a DVD is overdue.

Books and audio-books may be checked out for a two-week loan period.  Periodicals, cake pans, and DVDs may be checked out for one week.

Patrons desiring to use public access computers or WiFi need to read computer policies and sign in with a librarian at the front desk.  Staff will assign the next available computer to patrons.

Any use of the Library’s network (wired or wireless) must be in accordance with the Library’s Computer and Internet Use Policy. Any activities deemed illegal, apply to patrons whether using their own computer or a library owned computer.

Any use of the Library’s wireless network is at your own risk and library staff can only provide a minimum amount of assistance.

 Youth will be allowed internet access only after they and their parents have read the computer/internet use policy and they have signed a permission form.

 Patrons are responsible for all copies and printouts and will be assessed a charge of 10 cents each for standard 8 1/2 X11 prints or 50 cents for color.

The use of cell phones is permitted in the library.  Users are asked to keep their phones on silent or vibrate to receive incoming calls or exts.  Patrons are also asked to keep their conversations brief and quiet or to go outside of the building to complete their call.

Children under the age of 6 must be accompanied and directly supervised at all times by a parent or responsible caregiver.

 Children must be picked up 5 minutes prior to closing time.  If parents are not present at time of closing and are unable to be contacted, the police department will be notified and the children will be taken into their care.   Under no circumstances will an employee of the library be allowed to transport your child home.

 It is the policy of the Board of Trustees that patrons of the Schuyler Public Library have the right to use Library materials and services without being unduly disturbed or impeded by other library users, and that patrons and staff have the right to a secure and congenial environment.

 Any behavior that disrupts or hinders public use of the Library is prohibited on Library property.

 The Schuyler Public Library upholds the principles set forth in the American Library Association Statement on Professional ethics which states, in part that circulation records will remain confidential.
