Fizz Boom Read

Our Summer Reading Program, Fizz Boom Read, begins Monday, June 2.

The schedule is as follows:

-Mondays, 10:30 a.m. or 1 p.m., Read to Me group, preschool through first grade.

-Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., Independent group, second through fifth grades.

-On Tuesday and/or Thursday we will offer a Teen program for students in grades 6 through 12.  Interested students should contact Mike at the library so the schedule can be arranged.

Registration for Fizz Boom Read begins Monday, May 19.

Fizz Boom Read

Fizz Boom Read is the title of the Summer Reading Program for 2014.  Plans are being developed for lots of fun experiments, games and books that will interest and entertain children of all ages.  Details will be coming soon, so plan to attend the Summer Reading Program at Schuyler Public Library.

Quilt Fund-raiser

This beautiful quilt will be given away during a drawing on March 4.  Displaying the quilt are MeMe Smith, library director; Sharon Schurman and Jan Bahr, the women who created the masterpiece.

This beautiful 84- by 94-inch quilt will be given away during a drawing at 7 p.m. on March 4 during the St. John’s Lutheran Church Pancake Supper. Displaying the quilt are MeMe Smith, library director; Sharon Schurman and Lemay Anderson.  Sharon Schurman made the quilt, and Jan Bahr did the quilting.  Sponsors of the drawing are St. John’s Lutheran Women of the ELCA.  Proceeds will benefit the Schuyler Public Library Foundation Building Fund.  Tickets are $5 each, and may be purchased at Schuyler Public Library; Lemay Anderson, 402-666-5333; Pauline Huber, 402-352-4254; and Sharon Schurman, 402-352-3342.

New Year, New Schedule

With the New Year’s arrival, there will be a new schedule for events at the Children’s Library.  Effective Jan. 1, there will be Craft Day every Thursday from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.  Game Day will be held every Friday from 3 to 4:15 p.m.  On the first Saturday of every month, there will be a Story Hour for the youngsters at 11 a.m.  On the third Thursday of every month, there will be Movie Night at 6 p.m.  As always, those attending the movie are welcome to bring their own treats.  Hope the new schedule will help parents and children alike plan ahead for regular attendance.

Christmas Movie Night

Mark your calendar to visit Your Library this Thursday, Dec. 19, for our Christmas Movie Night beginning at 5 p.m. This classic holiday film will entertain children and adults, so don’t miss it.  Bring your own treats to enjoy yourself and/or share with your friends. Ho, Ho, Ho!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kennedy Display

On Nov. 22, the nation will observe the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. In addition to a selection of books on the subject, Schuyler Public Library has the original newspapers reporting the assassination on display this week. There are also some magazines from 1963 that deal with the event. Be sure to stop in and inspect these historical items.

New this week

Everyone is invited to the library Halloween party Thursday, Oct. 24, at 5:30 p.m. We will have a costume contest, treats and a movie. Hope to see you there! On Friday, Oct. 25, we will have game day and crafts. The craft will be decorating a paper pumpkin in your own jack-o-lantern design. Put on your thinking caps.

Upcoming Youth Activities

Schuyler Public Library has two youth activities planned for the upcoming week.  On Oct. 17, we will be showing a movie at 5 p.m. to wrap up Teen Read Week.  The film is one of the many that have been made from best-selling books throughout Hollywood’s history.  The library also has a special display with some of the books that became famous movies.

On Thursday, Oct. 24, the library will host a Halloween party for youngsters at 5:30 p.m.  It will feature a costume contest, treats and a movie.   As always, parents are welcomed to stay and enjoy the fun.
