Read to Me Storytime
Ages 3-6
Entering Preschool, Kindergarten, and First Grade
Mondays @ 10:30am
June 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th
July 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th
Our Read to Me program for pre-readers will focus on developing pre-literacy skills through songs, crafts, and stories. Parents, caretakers, and older siblings are encouraged to read aloud for 10 minutes a day or 1 hour a week. Children will earn rewards for every 1 hour spent listening.
Independent Reader Activity Time
Ages 7-11
Entering grades 2-5
Wednesdays at 10:30am
June 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th
July 11th, 18th, 25th & August 1st
Our independent reader program will feature activities designed for beginning and Intermediate readers. Participants are encouraged to read for 20 minutes a day or 2 hours a week. They may read anything they choose, including comics, magazines, non-fiction and fiction. Time spent reading to others also counts. There will be a prize for every 2 hours of reading they do, up to 10 hours.
Teen Tech Workshops
Ages 12+
Entering grades 6-12
Tuesdays & Thursdays @10:30am
June 5th & 7th, 12th & 14th, 19th & 21st, 26th & 28th
July 10th & 12th, 17th & 19th, 24th & 26th, 31st & August 2nd
This summer the Schuyler Public Library will host a series of hands-on workshops to teach technology skills to youth entering grades 6-12. The Tuesday session will feature instruction in a variety of topics and Thursdays will offer the opportunity to practice new skills. Topics covered will include audio recording, editing, and podcasting, digital photography, photo and video editing, Microsoft Word and Powerpoint, and Computer (re)Boot Camp. Participants must have internet permission on file at the library. Youth who attend at least two instructional session will earn a free flash drive. This project was supported in part by state aid funding appropriated by the Nebraska Legislature, granted and administered by the Nebraska Library Commission.
Reading Rewards
All summer reading participants will be able to fill up punch cards by attending programs, checking out books from the library, completing reading goals and more. Each rewards card that is filled will be entered into an end of summer drawing. Prizes will include books and prize packs. Pick up your punch card when you register for the summer reading program! This years prizes are sponsored by a donation from the Cargill Cares Committee.
