The Southeast Library System (SELS) seeks a visionary, collaborative Executive Director to lead and support libraries across twenty counties in southeast Nebraska. The Director works with the SELS Board of Directors to advance the System’s mission of strengthening libraries through consultation, continuing education, advocacy, and innovation.
About the Role
The Executive Director provides both strategic leadership and hands-on engagement, serving as SELS’s chief consultant, educator, advocate, and ambassador. This position fosters regional collaboration, supports directors and staff, and champions equitable access to information and technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead strategic planning, partnerships, and regional initiatives.
- Provide responsive consulting to library directors, trustees, and staff.
- Develop and deliver professional development and training opportunities.
- Strengthen networking, communication, and resource-sharing among member libraries.
- Promote technology adoption, digital literacy, and innovation across the region.
- Serve as SELS’s primary communicator and advocate at local, state, and national levels.
- Oversee operations, budgeting, reporting, and nonprofit governance.
Qualifications
- ALA-accredited MLIS or related graduate degree.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive library leadership or regional service experience.
- Strong communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and service to rural and diverse communities.
- Valid Nebraska driver’s license and ability to travel within the region.
Salary & Benefits
Salary: $55,000–$65,000, commensurate with experience.
The position does not include direct health or retirement benefits; however, it provides a 17% stipend in addition to base salary to support the purchase of benefits. Generous paid leave and professional development opportunities are included.
