Turning the Page to a New Year

Hey, everyone! Welcome to the new year! We’re going to make it a great one, right? Of course we are! ๐Ÿ™‚
(WordPress has changed, and I am unable to upload pictures at the moment ๐Ÿ™ good thing we made a Facebook!)

The Patron Only Party went wonderfully! We had over 30 people attend, and almost all of the food was consumed – the remainder of it was donated. Everyone had a great time talking and eating and looking over our amazing little library! Thank you so much to everyone who came, to anyone who has ever donated anything, and to every single one of you patrons who make our library great! We couldn’t do any of this without you!

Last month, we only had two Club Nights, but they both were hopping with activity! Gym Day had six attendees, and we played kickball and basketball the whole hour. BINGO Night in December had seven attendees, and the BINGO Night today also had seven attendees! Almost everyone always gets a BINGO, and with every BINGO, you get a prize! It remains our patrons’ favorite Club Night so far, with Board Game Night and Gym Day close behind and both vying for second place. Please remember that every single Club Night is open to patrons of ALL ages, and you are always more than welcome to join us!

My library board ladies and I are going to be starting up a new event soon – I will add details for that as they come together. We also have a young patron named Viva who wants to start doing learning lectures about her home country, Thailand! More details on that as it develops, as well. I will update this post and make posts on our new Facebook about the new programs as they come along! We still have our weekly Club Nights and lots of awesome things for you to do at our little library! ๐Ÿ™‚

Make sure to check out our policy – we have changed a few things. Patrons 17 and under can now read off their fines, and fines have been lowered to 10 cents a day. We wanted to make it so it’s hard for a patron to accumulate a fine at all, and we want to work with our patrons more about it. Full details are outlined in our policy! I’m also handing hard copies of it out at the library if you would rather read it on paper! Thank you!

I hope everyone had an amazing holiday season, and I hope to see you here at YOUR Snyder Public Library soon! <3

Read & Be Merry!

Hello, all! It’s that time of year again – we’ve all been sick at least once by now, it’s really cold, and there’s some snow on the ground. The perfect time to curl up in a warm spot and read a great book! ๐Ÿ™‚ Well, anytime is the perfect time to read a book, but you know what I mean.

We’ve got lots of new books and media here at the library for you to enjoy! I just added bunch of new movies – some holiday ones, like the newest Grinch movie and Elf, and some new ones, like The Lion King, A Star Is Born, Yesterday, and John Wick 3 (yes, we have the first two!). And we’ve got 450 other movies for you to choose from! Come on down and check one out – you can even use one of our computers to watch the movie! I also have our holiday books on display for you to browse. Pete the Cat Saves Christmas, The Polar Express, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas are among the many I have out!

We also have a new clock! Thank you, DEMCO! It has made everyone smile!

If you are a patron, or if you have ever donated anything to our library (whether it be your time, labor, money, books/media/decor/prizes/etc), you are invited to our Patron Only Party! It will be held inside the library, next Wednesday, December 18th, from 5:30 – 7:00 pm. You will be able to mingle with other patrons and donors and munch on delicious hors d’oeuvres made by my library board ladies and me! We hope to see you there!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Speaking of Wednesdays, our weekly club nights are still going strong! November’s Gym Day had six attendees, and yesterday’s Gym Day also had six! The patrons’ favorite game to play is kickball, with our awesome red soccer ball! They also shoot hoops and play tag, and we always have a popsicle break! It’s lots of fun. Board Game Night in November had seven patrons there, all having fun playing all kinds of games, like Clue, UNO, dominoes, and more! Thank you to everyone who has ever donated games to the library! The patrons (the kids, especially) just love them! There was no Chess Club last month, as we were closed due to weather. Bingo Night this month was a hit, as always, with seven patrons playing BINGO and winning lots of neat prizes!

The library board and I have decided to make some changes to our policy, particularly when it comes to checkout, checkout length, and how we handle late fees and fines. The changes will be effective starting January 1st, 2020, and I will be sure to highlight the changed policies with a blog post, so all of our patrons know what’s expected of them when they use their library’s services! We hope our changes will make things easier for our patrons (and me!), and make their experiences at our library even better.ย

Thank you all for being a part of our little library!!! <3

Everybody Make A Scene!

Hey there, spooky folks! It’s that time of year again – the weather has changed drastically, football is on, and HALLOWEEN is coming! I’m super excited!

Our Halloween Party this year will be on Thursday, October 31st, from 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm. The costume contest, for ages 0-12, will begin at 5:30, and food will be served at 6. There will be games to play, prizes to win, and fun to be had! The Snyder Fire Department will also be paying us a visit and talking about safety with us! We can’t wait to dress up and have fun with everyone!! We hope to see you there.
(If you would like to help us decorate/setup, we will be doing so on the 29th at 6:30. And if you would like to volunteer in some way, please come in and talk with me about it!)

Last month’s Chess Club had three attendees, and this month’s only had one, but that’s okay. I got to teach chess to a patron who had never played it before! Hopefully we pick up our game again at the next Chess Club on the 30th.

At September’s BINGO Night, we had TEN people attend!! It was a lot of great fun and just about everybody got at least one BINGO. Today was October’s, and we had SEVEN patrons come in to play! We had to have it inside of the library today because the American Red Cross was set up in the auditorium.

BINGO Night has quickly shot right past Board Game Night as the favorite club! Everyone has such a good time playing, we provide drinks and snacks, and you get a neat prize for every BINGO you get. Hopefully this club will keep growing, and we can eventually hold a village-wide tournament or something! That would be awesome!!

Last month’s Gym Day had five attendees, and we had a great time playing kickball with a beach ball. This month’s Gym Day is next Wednesday, October 16th. This time, we will play with an actual kickball I bought for the library! And I’m sure we’ll play all kinds of things. Should be lots of fun!!

On Board Game Night last month, I unlocked the door to the sight of three young patrons sitting outside finger-knitting (with little rubber bands). I told them they could bring all of it inside, and they had a great time just sitting at the table and making things! They made me a bracelet! We ended the club night with a few games of Twister, which was a lot of fun to watch! They had never played it before, so it was interesting to teach them how to. Our next Board Game Night will be on October 23rd. Please come and play one of our many, many games, or teach us a new one!

I have also finally made a Facebook for the library! Check it out atย https://www.facebook.com/necessitynotluxury/

We hope to see you at YOUR little Snyder Public Library soon!
