{"id":5674,"date":"2021-10-12T23:09:57","date_gmt":"2021-10-12T23:09:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/libraries.ne.gov\/southsiouxcity\/?p=5674"},"modified":"2021-10-12T23:13:57","modified_gmt":"2021-10-12T23:13:57","slug":"libraries-transform-communities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/libraries.ne.gov\/southsiouxcity\/libraries-transform-communities\/","title":{"rendered":"Talking With Active Seniors"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"5674\" class=\"elementor elementor-5674\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-6edc51b elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"6edc51b\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-7b8aef0\" data-id=\"7b8aef0\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-374bec2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"374bec2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>LTC:\u00a0 Talking with Active Seniors<\/p><p>The library set up a meeting with a Senior Swim Group at the local YMCA.\u00a0 This group was exercised and ready for conversation.\u00a0<\/p><p>Our discussion was centered on what things concerns you.\u00a0 To prod them along, I said, what things do your children warn you about?\u00a0 We had a great conversation.\u00a0 We discussed dubious advertising, recognizing phishing scandals, computer problems, questions, and phone apps.\u00a0<\/p><p>We hit second gear, when we started talking about the things that interest them and questions that they have.\u00a0 The first question was about election laws.\u00a0 They were interested in how the votes were counted, election laws and other related questions.\u00a0 The second question in this part of the discussion was about cannabis, the difference between medical cannabis and recreational cannabis.\u00a0 They were interested in where the laws are for each state.\u00a0 The group also thought we should carry more information on these issues from Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota.\u00a0 This group liked to travel and they recommended that the library be a place where they could get passports.<\/p><p>As a result of this discussion, the library found several issues we can address:<\/p><ul><li>Technology classes\u2014We currently offer Tea and Tech, a time where people can be their questions and a library staff person will help you to find answers. To supplement this, we plan to offer Microsoft classes.\u00a0 We are going farther by focusing on Smart devices.<\/li><li>Privacy education\u2014As libraries we are always promoting privacy. We will continue to be a place that promotes privacy and educate our patrons on the changing face of privacy.<\/li><li>Information on Voting&#8211; As a result of this meeting we have partnered with the Iowa League of Women Voters to provide information on voting from the point of all three states.<\/li><li>The library is taking under consideration the changing state of cannabis related laws.
