We will be discussing the New York Times Bestseller book, “Once Upon A Town: The Miracle Of The North Platte Canteen” by author Bob Greene. While a columnist for the Chicago Tribune, Bob Greene stumbled onto story about the razing of the railroad depot in North Platte, Nebraska. It led him on a fact-finding trip to this small town, and then on to many interviews with people who had lived there during World War II, and also men who had traveled through on the troop trains. He wound up writing an entire book about the phenomenon of the North Platte Canteen.
