Local Poet Coming To The Spalding Library

Local author Mary Avidano will be featured during a book-signing and poetry reading event for her new book, BABUSHKA, from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, November 15th at the Spalding Public Library. Mary Avidano lives at Elgin. She is a minister for three small congregations, the churches are located at Albion, Primrose, and at Akron, halfway between. Much of her writing is inspired by ordinary daily life. Mary believes that good poetry, like good preaching, finds us where we are. –Bonnie Johnson-Bartee, creative writing instructor and Visiting Writers Series coordinator, Northeast Community College, Norfolk, Nebraska. Mary saw her first poem published in 2004, in NEBRASKA LIFE MAGAZINE. In 2008 she published a chapbook called THE ZEBRA’S FRIEND & OTHER POEMS. It is no longer in print. BABUSHKA is Mary’s second poetry collection, and contains several poems that appeared in the first chapbook. BABUSHKA was released in the summer of 2018 by Finishing Line Press, located in Georgetown, Kentucky. It is available from the publisher and from Amazon.com. Mary also has a memoir, titled IN THE HOUSE OF I AM, published in 2014. This book went through several printings and sold almost six hundred copies since its publication.
