Wi-fi now password protected

Stromsburg Public Library is proud to offer free, wireless Internet access to the community around the clock. This service is important for students to complete homework, for job seekers to complete applications and for numerous other responsibilibites that cannot be accomplished during the limited number of hours that the library is open.

Reports have recently surfaced that the unfiltered service has been inappropriately used, making it necessary to password protect the access to Wi-Fi. Those wishing to use the service will need to enter the library during open hours to get the password after signing a form agreeing to abide by the library’s Wi-Fi policies. Password protection will begin September 3. The password will change the first of each month. Users will then need to get a new password from library staff.

Library hours are as follows: Monday and Friday 1 to 5 pm. Tuesday and Wednesday 1-8 pm. and Saturday 10 am to 2 pm. The library will be closed Monday, September 2, for Labor Day. It will reopen Tuesday, September 3, from 1 to 8 pm.

Library Director

Earn an “A” with the Stromsburg Public Library

School starts this week and the Stromsburg Public Library is here to help all your students have a great year!

Any student of Cross County Community Schools is eligible for a library card at the Stromsburg Public Library whether they live in Polk county or York county. All residents of Polk county are eligible for a library card at any of our four county libraries; Polk County Library, Stromsburg Public Library, Osceola Public Library and Shelby Community Library.

The Stromsburg Public Library librarians are available to come talk to any class or organization and demonstrate all of our online resources, including how to renew books or put an item on hold from home! Call us at (402) 764-7681. Also check out the online tutorials available in the archives of this page.

The students will soon be receiving their laptops, remember that the Stromsburg Public Library is a wifi hotspot 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There’s never a reason for your student to be without internet access.

Don’t have a printer? You can print, fax, and scan documents at the Stromsburg Public Library. We do not have wireless printing available at this time so make sure you email the document to yourself or make it accessible somehow from the library’s computers. Copies are 20 cents a page plus tax.

Stromsburg Public Library is a great source of AR books to help students achieve reading goals this school year. In addition to our physical collection, you can check out ebooks and audio books from our on-line library system by clicking here. All you need is your library card number to get started. Don’t know your library card number? Call the library at (402) 764-7681 and Diana or Monica will be able to help you.

The library also subscribes to a number of databases that are available on the NebraskAccess site. To sign in all you need is a Nebraska driver’s licence number or a password that is available at the library. These databases take you directly to the source of reliable information for research papers, speeches and so much more. They go way beyond your typical Google search.

For all your display needs the Stromsburg Public Library has an Accu-cut die machine. Use our machine to put that professional touch on any school project. The library may borrow additional dies from the Northeast Library System. Just let us know a day or two in advance. To see a complete listing of their collection see their Lending Library page here.

The Stromsburg Public Library wants every student at our area schools to have a successful year, if we can be of any help, just let us know!
