December 1, 2016 Library Board Minutes

The Sutton Memorial Library Board met a 5:00 p.m. on December 1, 2016 for the December meeting in the library.  President, Joyce Brown, called the meeting to order and referred to the Open Meeting’s Act.  Present were:  Librarian, Shelly Reed, and board members, Joyce Brown, Carol Henricksen, Pam Overturf, Gertie Schmer, and Harriet Maser, was absent.

The minutes of the precious meeting were read and approved.  The bills for the month of November were presented and approved.  The balance on hand in the Sutton Library Memorial Accounts is $23, 492.87, as of 11/30/2016.

Shelly presented the circulation report for the Month of November, as follows: AF-394, ANF-22, E-95, JF-60, JNF-11, COM-93, PER-19, AUB-0, DVD-154.  Total Circulation = 848, Visitors = 570.

Old Business:  The accreditation approval has been received from the Nebraska Library Commission.  Discussion was held regarding organization of completing the Strategic Plan.  This will be reviewed and Scheduling completed at the January, 2017 meeting.

The front handicap door has been installed on the library, and is a welcome addition.

Jeff visited with the Sutton Lumber regarding available parking on the East side of the library for patrons of the library, and they agreed to cooperate with keeping this space available for the library.

Still need to check on getting magnets made with the new library hours.

New Business:  Plans were finalized the book fair which will be held December 5-December – to coincide with the Parade of Lights, wherein the library will have Open House.  Friends ;of the Library were contacted by Shirley Alberts to help the library board during this timeframe, as well as assisting with the children constructing ornaments at the library will the Open House from 5-6p.m., however there was no one available.  Carol & Pam will be available to help and Pan will contact at least two other persons to work, and 3 FHA girls will also be helping.  Carol will purchase candy canes to be given to the children that evening.  Will need to borrow tables from the city to display books for the book fair.

A Christmas luncheon will be held a 11 a.m. $ the Legion for the friends of the library and the library board.  Carol will make reservations for this.

Our next meeting will be January 5, 2016.  Without further business, President Joyce Brown closed the meeting at 5:30 p.m.
