May is Get Caught Reading Month! This nationwide public service campaign was founded by the Association of American Publishers in 1999 and aims to raise awareness about the joy of reading.
We are celebrating with some fun activities. If you “get caught” reading in the library during the month of May, your picture might be featured on our Facebook and website! We also have a coloring sheet that can be picked up at the library or printed here.
St. Nick will be visiting us on Saturday, December 5th from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. This year has been anything but typical, so it won’t be the usual visit with pictures on Santa’s lap.
Instead, we are having a drive-thru Santa visit! The Tekamah Public Library Foundation, library board, and library staff are teaming up to hand out free books and goodie bags. Santa will be there to greet cars.
Drivers are instructed to come through the alley between the library and Ronnie’s from west to east, instead of the usual east to west direction. This change is so traffic won’t get snarled on Main Street. Please follow the posted signs.
Drivers are also invited to decorate their cars, but this is not mandatory.
We will be having our annual Halloween event on Saturday, October 31st from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. We will be handing out candy via a candy chute Miss Megan is building out of cardboard tubes! This will make the night extra fun and safe. We hope you will come see us.
Virtual Story Time
There was a hiccup in our usual Virtual Story Time this week due to scheduling conflicts. We will be back next week with a bunch of spooky and fun Halloween stories.
Library Closures
The library will be closed on Wednesday, November 11th for Veterans Day.
The library will close for Thanksgiving on Wednesday, November 25th at 5:00 p.m. The library will reopen on Saturday, November 29th at 10:00 a.m.
Lego Club
Lego Club will be held on Thursday, November 5th and Thursday, November 19th from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Children attending the event will make a lego creation based on our theme for that week. It is a ton of fun and we hope you will join us!
All the legos are sanitized prior to each meeting and we have hand sanitizer available. Social distancing guidelines will be adhered to. Children younger than 7 need to be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or responsible older sibling.
One of our most missed activities during this pandemic has been Story Hour. We sorely miss the kiddos that visited us every week, and we have heard the kids miss us too!
Right now, we are playing around with two different formats for story times that are “social distancing friendly.”
Zoom Story Time
One option is to have a live story time via Zoom. We have our dates listed for September, and parents can sign up here. You will be sent an invitation link via email after you sign up. The available dates and times can be viewed on the form.
If a live story time isn’t an option, we are also experimenting with…
Virtual Story Time
This is a prerecorded story time that can be enjoyed at any time. One or two stories are recorded per video to keep the files small and manageable. Miss Megan recorded one last week.
What do you think? Would you prefer we hold story times via Zoom or do your children like to listen to the prerecorded ones? Let us know!
