Get Caught Reading Month

May is Get Caught Reading Month! This nationwide public service campaign was founded by the Association of American Publishers in 1999 and aims to raise awareness about the joy of reading.

We are celebrating with some fun activities. If you “get caught” reading in the library during the month of May, your picture might be featured on our Facebook and website! We also have a coloring sheet that can be picked up at the library or printed here.

Hat Virtual Story Time

This week, Miss Theresa is sharing a couple stories about hats! Hats are great for when you are having a “bad hair day,” when you just want to wear something fun, or if you need to keep your head warm. Do you have a hat you like the wear?

Have you ever made a hat out of newspaper? This classic craft is fun and easy. Check out the tutorial in the link below. And if you need newspaper, we have plenty at the library ready for recycling. Just ask!

Spring Virtual Story Time

Our story time this week focuses on celebrating spring. Ms Theresa talks about spring and how we can tell that it is spring. The books she is reading today are Spring is Here by Will Hillenbrand and The Thing About Spring by Daniel Kirk.

For craft ideas related to spring, refer to the link from last week’s story time and/or come in to get a spring craft kit.

Golden Sower Story Time

This week, we are reading two books that have been chosen as nominees for the 2020-2021 Nebraska Golden Sower Awards. Your child may be participating in the voting program for these books at school.

This week, our craft is super easy! All you need is a paper plate, some supplies, for decorating, and your imagination. Check out the link for ideas to inspire you.

Dr. Seuss Virtual Story Time

Tuesday, March 2nd is Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Many kids in school celebrate this day as Read Across America Day. This week, we are celebrating Dr. Seuss with a couple of our favorite whacky books.

Miss Theresa’s favorite is the classic Green Eggs and Ham. Miss Megan’s favorite is Fox in Socks, a tongue twister! Check out the stories below and then check out the craft ideas.

Another Snowy Story Time

We are ready for spring! Aren’t you? Hopefully this will be the last time we feel inspired to do a story time about snow this season. Listen to our stories and then check out the fun craft kit you can pick up at the library!

Our craft this week is a kit you pick up at the library. Kids will use a pencil eraser to make snowflakes surrounding their snowman. You can make a big pile of snow like Miss Megan did, and then color in your snowman. The snowman coloring page and the pencil are provided in the kit. All you need to provide at home is the paint.
