Q. Why can’t you trust an artist?

A. Because they are shady… and a little sketchy… and they’ll try to frame you!

We have a plethora of magazines in our baskets (that are free to take!), so I am going to challenge our after-school kiddos to finish the picture on Thursday:

I’ve cut out interesting pictures, and, in addition to our regular activities, the students will be challenged to draw the rest of the scene. We’ll see how sketchy they really are!

Thursday AfterSchool is offered in partnership with Twin Rivers YMCA and is open to all area elementary school children (under age 8 with supervision). Beginning right after school, the afternoon includes a snack, homework time, programs/activities and unstructured time for reading and play. Formal programming ends before 6 p.m.

Back in our school routine!

We are on our third week back to school, ladies and gentlemen! Time flies! THURSDAY AfterSchool is back in full swing. As a reminder, Thursday AfterSchool is offered in partnership with Twin Rivers YMCA and is open to all area elementary school children (under age 8 with supervision). Beginning right after school, the afternoon includes a snack, homework time, programs/activities and unstructured time for reading and play. Formal programming ends before 6 p.m. We have had fun exploring what the library has to offer these past couple of weeks, and I have received feedback from the students about what programs they would like to have again. One popular idea was making fortune tellers (cootie catchers), so we will be doing that tomorrow, September 10th.

Bubble Geometry

This Tuesday, May 22nd, Garren will be showing you how to use straws and pipe cleaners to shape bubbles in new ways! We will also be having a bookmark design contest. We’ll make copies of the winning design for the bookmark basket at the circulation desk.

Ice painting success

The students had a lot of fun ice painting today! Although some decided to take home their work, others wanted it hung in the library. In the children’s room, you may see some of today’s creations.

Ice cube painting

Weather permitting, AfterSchool on Tuesday, May 1st will go outside for ice cube painting! Made with water, food coloring, and a little bit of flour, these ice cubes will start to melt outside, allowing students to paint with them!

If the weather doesn’t allow us to be outside, we will make May Day/Mother’s day crafts.

Thank you, Officer James!

Color with a Cop was a huge success! AfterSchool loved meeting James, the visiting police officer, and coloring with him. While they colored, the kids asked him all sorts of questions! (No, police dogs do not track werewolves, to his knowledge.) He was a champ at answering all of their questions and promoting general safety.
Here are some of our creations:

Color with a Cop
