Cleaning Pennies

AfterSchool, on Tuesday, April 17th, will be exploring how to clean pennies. Will soap work? What happens with vinegar? Does it matter if we rinse them afterwards? Find out, this week, on another exciting episode of AfterSchool!

Tuesday AfterSchool is offered in partnership with Twin Rivers YMCA and is open to all area elementary school children (under age 8 with supervision). Beginning right after school, the afternoon includes a snack, homework time, programs/activities and unstructured time for reading and play. Formal programming ends before 6 p.m.

These targets and shooters will be at the library on Tuesday, April 3rd, as a part of our regular after-school program.

There will also be more goodies from the Omaha Public Library; Dado Cubes and Squares and Zoob pieces are scheduled to be available. Students will also have their usual range of choices.

Easter Eggs After-School

On Tuesday, March 27th, Garren will be leading After-school for the week and he’ll have a whole BUNCH of paper Easter eggs for decorating with art supplies. We’ll all collect the eggs on a garland. How far can we go?

Also: a giant Easter coloring sheet and the usual variety of choices.

Breaking News

On Tuesday, March 20th, students will have the opportunity to create submissions for Ask magazine. Each month, Ask uses a spread of pages to display pictures and letters sent in by kids. This month, they are asking kids to send in submissions of news headlines and pictures. An example they give is “New Neighbors Moving In.” Entries can be sent from the Valley library, but interested kids will put their name, address, and age on the back. The magazine only reveals the first name, last initial, age, and home state of contestants chosen.
In addition, magnet toys have been borrowed from the Omaha Public Library, and the usual array of choices will also be available.

Playaways and Games

On Tuesday, March 13th, students will have the opportunity to explore “Playaway Views” borrowed from the Omaha Public Library. If students have and can bring headphones, it would cut down on the noise, but they are not required. Besides our usual choices, I will also be leading games like “Heads Up, Seven Up,” and the “Cup Game.”
