Q: Why are magazines so sad?

A: They have too many issues!

In this issue of After-School (January 16th), we’ll be cutting up magazines to make booklets of our own design. We could spell out names/different words or come up with our own creations. In my example, I’ve spelled out the word “Happy.” It’s my own little happy booklet! Shown is one of the “p” pages.

Tuesday AfterSchool is offered in partnership with Twin Rivers YMCA and is open to all area elementary school children (under age 8 with supervision). Beginning right after school, the afternoon includes a snack, homework time, programs/activities and unstructured time for reading and play. Formal programming ends before 6 p.m.

There’s snow easy way to say it…

Tuesday, December 19th, will be the last time the After School program meets until after winter break. We will resume this weekly program when school is in session.
To kick off the students’ break a bit early, we will be having an indoor “snowball” fight! Using paper and coffee filters, the students will battle it out, throwing crumpled balls back and forth until a timer runs out—the team with less “snow” on their side wins!

What’s the deal?

Tuesday, December 12th, the After School program is breaking out the cards. We will be playing War and Garbage, and students will be able to use the cards for their own games, too.

Floating Legos

The library has new Legos! This week (Tuesday, December 5th), After-School students will build their own creations to be tested on water. How many “passengers” (pennies) do you think the strongest can hold before it sinks?

Compositions of Lyric Verse

Or “poetry,” in other words.
Tuesday, November 28th, After-School will explore poetry with charades, magnets, black-out poetry, and some help from Mr. Silverstein.

After-School, November 21st

What do you call a sweating yam?

A hot potato!
This week in After-School, we’ll play this classic game, have Thanksgiving word searches and coloring sheets available, and we’ll also have our usual array of choices.

Go Noodle

Tuesday, November 14th, the After School program will explore Go Noodle! Students may be familiar with Go Noodle through their school classrooms, and now the library will start our own “champ,” (the characters Go Noodle uses). As this is designed for groups of kids in kindergarten through fifth grade, Go Noodle will be a welcome addition to our program.

International Games Week

In celebration of International Games Week, our After School program on Tuesday, November 7th, will be playing games! All of our board games will be out, so bring your “game face” and get ready to have some fun!

A display of games will be out, ready for drop-in games for any players that are interested during regular library hours.

Halloween Party!

I told the students today, but I also wanted to get the word out on here; Tuesday, October 31st, we will be having a Halloween party! Join us from 3:30-6:00 for mummy wrapping and carnival-like Halloween games! Activities are aimed at K-5th grade, but all are welcome. Costumes are welcome but not required.
