Library Partners with DC West Family Facilitator and Preschool

On Monday, June 6, Valley toddlers and preschoolers gathered for the first “Read With Me: Stories and Activities” event with staff from DC West.  Sue Guerrero, Family Facilitator, and Barbara Young, Early Childhood Specialist, led a program using the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom as their theme.  After listening to the book, children created their own coconut trees, their own books, and some bracelets and necklaces.  You can view more photos on our Facebook page.chicka 4 chicka 3 chicka 2 chicka 1.

Cinderella and a Princess Party

Eleven princesses from Valley met with Cinderella at the library on June 14.  Cinderella read them a story, played “Princess, Princess, Frog,” and taught them tea party manners.  Thank you Cinderella for taking a break from your royal duties to visit us.  You can view more Cinderella 1 Cinderella 2 Cinderella 3pictures on our Facebook page.

Our First Whiz Kid Wednesday

Donna (whose clown name is “Rainbow Trout”) came to the library on June 8 to teach us balloon twisting.  She taught us how to twist a bumblebee, a sword, a flower and a hat.  Some  kids got very creative!  The library presented this in partnership with the Twin Rivers YMCA Summer Camp.  You can see more pictures on our Facebook page.balloon 4 balloon 3 balloon 2 balloon 1

Thank you, volunteers!

We said “thank you” to our volunteers with a reception in their honor on April 21. Our volunteers provide much of our programming as well as doing a lot of “behind the scenes” work and fundraising, and they are largely responsible for the value that this institution provides to the community. With that in mind, Mayor Carroll Smith read a proclamation recognizing this week as Volunteer Week in Valley. Special recognition was given to Friends of the Library and the Library Foundation for service to the community through the library. Thanks to HyVee at 180th and Pacific for providing a cake for the celebration.

Nebraska Science Fest

The library was happy to host a Nebraska Science Festival event for the second time this year! Thanks to volunteers who provided interactive stations and demonstrations: Gary Brown, Linda Gergen, Michael and Sebastian Hanus, and John Niemoth. Our children’s librarian, Nancy Novotny, also provided a very popular table.SciFest 2016 snap circuits2SciFest 2016bSciFest 2016 sonobe2
