We certainly had an eventful few days here at the Ashland Public Library! Starting Saturday, 21 July, staff and teen volunteers met behind the library to assemble our Stir-Up Days parade float. A tie with Nutriens Ag Solutions for 3rd place in the business category rewarded our efforts. With such a warm reception from our community, staff members are already excited to start planning for next year’s parade!
Then, on Monday 23rd, we reached the grande finale of our summer Family Music Festival. Working in conjunction with Charles Hull, founder and executive producer of Silver Street Records, we got the evening rolling (and rockin’) with Charles’ band, Tragic Jack, who treated the 200 or so community members in attendance to selections from their debut album, Glasshouse Town.
A tough act to follow, but headliner Josh Hoyer & Soul Colossus were up to the challenge. Between sharing heartfelt thoughts on the importance of family and following one’s passion, they definitely had many in attendance dancing on the lawn, or at least in their seats.
We look forward to working with Charles and Silver Street Records again to bring a similar event to the community in the future.
