During the week of December 13-18, the library held a Christmas Scavenger Hunt! There were 101 participants that came and searched high and low all over the library to find the 16 items on the hunt. Once all of the items were found, they each received a bag with an assortment of crafts and a treat! They colored cute Christmas bookmarks and wooden ornaments, along with a 3D Christmas tree which was then put together.

The Friends of the Library Holiday Silent Auction ended December 6th, and the winning bids were announced on the next day. Santa came to the Atkinson Public Library December 6th! Amber Shane, of Silver Star Photography, was on hand to take some wonderful pictures of the 238 children and adults as they sat and visited with Santa. So many little ones were anxious to see the man in red – but, there were also some shy ones, and of course a few tears! Handouts with directions to download the pictures, as well as candy canes, furnished by Mitchell Equipment, and fun bags from the Atkinson/Holt County C4K, were handed out to all the children as they left. The library appreciates Margaret Linse, Kathy Kliment, Lee Martischang, Madeline Rentschler, Olivia Rentschler, and Beth Laible for being Santa’s helpers for the evening.
The Central Plains Library System came to the Atkinson Public Library on November 10 for an instructional class on using a Cricut machine! The group of 20 ladies was shown how to create projects on the computer, and then print/cut using the machine. Cute leather fringy earrings and personalized coffee cups were made by everyone present. It was a great learning experience!
On Wednesday, October 27, three members of the Nebraska Strong Program once again came to Atkinson to partner with the Atkinson Public Library for a couple of pumpkin themed sessions. They gathered with 10 residents of Elkhorn Meadows in the morning where cute picture frames were decorated, and a group of 20 patrons at the library in the afternoon for pumpkin painting. Favorite Halloween costumes, the history and traditions of the holiday, favorite pumpkin recipes, and books attendees are currently reading, were discussed in both sessions. The library appreciates all that Karen Strong, Cathy Barta, Linda Paesl, and all Nebraska Strong members do to help make a positive impact for our area.
November 15-18 at the library was Thanksgiving Crafts for Kids. There were 159 children that stopped by to glue together a cute turkey, string gobble-gobble necklaces, and fill out ‘I am Thankful for…” coloring pages.
