{"id":235,"date":"2013-08-31T11:36:25","date_gmt":"2013-08-31T17:36:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/libraries.ne.gov\/blair\/?page_id=235"},"modified":"2020-07-25T12:37:11","modified_gmt":"2020-07-25T18:37:11","slug":"computerinternet-policy","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/libraries.ne.gov\/blair\/about-us\/policies\/computerinternet-policy\/","title":{"rendered":"Computer\/Internet Policy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Computers are available for public use in the Blair Public Library.\u00a0 The uses for these computers include searching the Library\u2019s catalog, word processing and Internet access.<\/p>\n<p>It is the responsibility of the patron to demonstrate good judgment, respect for others and appropriate conduct while using the computers.\u00a0 Using the computers is a privilege which may be revoked at any time for conduct which, in the sole discretion of Library management, is inappropriate, irresponsible or disturbing to other patrons or otherwise inappropriate in a public setting for a Library.\u00a0 The Library does not guarantee privacy.\u00a0 Additionally, any of the Library staff is entitled to directly monitor the content or use of a computer at any time.\u00a0 When you access the Internet you leave the Blair Public Library.\u00a0 The Library has no control over the information accessed through the Internet and cannot be held responsible for its content.<\/p>\n<p>The Library does not endorse the content, accuracy, or various viewpoints accessed through the Internet.\u00a0 The Internet content is filtered but the Blair Library is not responsible for the effectiveness of the filtering system.\u00a0 Patrons age 18 and older may ask to have the filter disabled.<\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"> Authorization for Internet Access:<\/span><\/b>\u00a0 Patrons, age 18 or over, must register at the front desk for authorization to use a computer.\u00a0 Patrons under the age of 18 must have a valid Library card or be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian with appropriate identification.\u00a0 All patrons under the age of 18 will use a filtered computer unless they are accompanied by a parent of legal guardian and said parent or guardian allows the filter to be removed.\u00a0 Parents or guardians, not the Library or its staff, are responsible for the Internet information accessed by their children.\u00a0 Parents may request children under the age of 18, with a valid library card, be restricted from Internet use without parental supervision.<\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"> Time Allocation:<\/span><\/b>\u00a0 Computer sessions are for 30 minutes on a first come first serve basis.\u00a0 If no one is waiting, the patron may continue to use the computer.\u00a0 If a patron is asked to vacate a computer, the patron must wait 30 minutes before beginning a new session, unless a computer becomes available and no one is waiting.\u00a0 Users must promptly vacate a computer when asked by Library staff.\u00a0 A maximum of 2 hours per day is enforced, unless no other users are present or waiting for an available computer.<\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"> User Assistance:<\/span><\/b>\u00a0 The Library does not routinely provide computer training.\u00a0 The Library staff may not be able to assist computer users because of limited training or other demands on the time of the staff.<\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"> Prohibitions:<\/span><\/b>\u00a0 \u00a0 The following activities are prohibited:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Destruction or damage to equipment, software or data belonging to the Library;<\/li>\n<li>Unauthorized monitoring, or disruption of electronic communications;<\/li>\n<li>Unauthorized use of destruction of data of others;<\/li>\n<li>Unauthorized copying or transmittal of copyright protected data;<\/li>\n<li>Harassing, libeling or slandering of others; and<\/li>\n<li>Sending spam, malware, spyware, ransomware or other inappropriate or damaging script.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Any illegal usage involving Library resources may subject the patron to prosecution by local, state or federal officials.<\/p>\n<p>You agree to the above terms and conditions when you use a computer at the Blair Public Library.<\/p>\n<p>Policy approved by the Blair Public Library Board 10\/08\/02<br \/>\nRevision made 10\/2010<br \/>\nPolicy revised and adopted 08\/2013<br \/>\nPolicy revised and adopted 4\/2016<br \/>\nPolicy revised and used as of 6\/2017; not approved by Council at this time.<br \/>\nReviewed 8\/2018<br \/>\nReviewed 8\/2019<br \/>\nReviewed 7\/2020<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Computers are available for public use in the Blair Public Library.\u00a0 The uses for these computers include searching the Library\u2019s catalog, word processing and Internet access.
