On March 2, Elgin Public Library celebrated the birthday of Dr. Seuss. Ten children listened to Dr. Seuss books, made masks, played games and ate lots and lots of green eggs and ham. Fun was had by all and in the words of Dr. Seuss:

“If you never did you should. These things are fun and fun is good.”

[slideshow_deploy id=’779′]     On Monday, March 27, the Elgin Public Library started their first Lego League.  Students in Grades K – 6 were invited to participate.  They only needed to bring their imagination and creativity.  The library supplied the legos.   We had 36 eager Lego builders attending.  They started out with building their name or initials and ended with building their own designs.  Their creations are on display at the library so come and see what these kids created.  If your child missed out on participating in Lego League, they still have a chance to join.  Just give us a call.  Due to the tremendous turnout, we are considering dividing it into two sessions.  One will be on the third Monday and the other on the fourth Monday of the month.  Thank you to the Bargain Box for the grant that made it possible for us to buy the Legos.

February has been a busy month at the library.    On Friday, February 10^th,  six preschool children were treated to a Valentine scavenger hunt.  The hearts they found were then made into necklaces.  Following the scavenger hunt they enjoyed a story entitled “The Valentine Mice”.   To top off the morning the preschool children were given a Valentine treat from Mrs. Gunderson and Mrs. Bode.  Then on February 13, we visited St. Boniface first and second graders for a story and Valentine craft.

Book Club will be held on February 22, at 4:00.  They will be discussing The Pilot’s Wife.

New books in the library are Into the Firestorm by Kat Martin and Echoes in Death:  An Eve Dallas Novel by J.D. Robb.

“It’s probably too soon to turn the heat on, but never too early to curl up with a good book. And we’ve got several this week.  Just in are Reckless Creed by Alex Kava and Missing- A Private Novel by James Patterson and Kathryn Fox.  We also have some donated large print books by Fern Michaels, Nora Roberts and Janet Evanovich. Our open house was a success with over forty visitors.  Thank you to everyone who attended.  Door prizes were won by Carolyn Johnson, Vida Sprout, Marilyn Reilly, Jeane Johnson, Cael Bottorf and Jael Lammers.  Thank you to the Library Board and Library Foundation members for providing the cookies.  Book Club will meet on Wednesday, October 26^th at 4:00.  This month they are reading What She Left Behind by Ellen Marie Wiseman. Visit us on facebook and at our website at http://libraries.ne. gov/elgin.  Our hours are Monday 5-7 p.m., Tuesday 1-5 p.m., Wednesday 1-7 p.m. and Thursday and Friday 1-5 p.m.  Library doors are a gateway to anywhere.

Fall is in the air and definitely in the Elgin Public Library.  With the help of Mrs. Borer’s fifth grade class, the library has made some changes.  The fifth grade class of Elgin Public School came to the library Friday, September 9, to help decorate for the season.  You will need to come to the library to check us out.  Along with the decorations we also have some new books.  You will now find A Great Reckoning by Louise Penny and Downfall by J. A. Jance on the shelves.  Upcoming events planned at the library include Book Club which will be held Wednesday, September 21, at 4:00 P.M.  Also this month an open house is being planned for Wednesday, September 28 from 1:00 – 7:00.  More details on the open house will be coming later.
