1000 Books Before Kindergarten Awarded
Congratulations to three year old Athena Bottolfsen, daughter of Troy and Nicole Bottolfsen for completing the “1000 Books Before Kindergarten” program at the Hartington Public Library. She received a metal, certificate, prize and a FREE book from the library for her reading accomplishment. Great job to Athena, for being a good listener and to her parents for taking time out to read to her. She loves all the books at the library, particularly books on snails.
This program was launched to instill the love of reading, get children ready for school, and to encourage more parent/child library visits. Books are logged and prizes are awarded along the way. One of the best ways to encourage pre-reading skills is to spend time sharing books each and every day! Reading provides a solid foundation, a key to school and learning success. When you, as a parent, read to your child, you help him or her develop the skills they will need to learn to read by themselves.
If you are interested in learning more about this reading adventure for your child, please stop by or call the Hartington Public Library at 402-254-6245.

Congratulations to our Book Buck Winners!
Erika Heiman, daughter of Dan and Francis Heiman received a $25 Barnes and Noble gift card from the library’s summer Book Buck program.
During the months of June and July, the Hartington Public Library launched a new reading incentive called “Book Bucks” for 3rd graders and older. The kids were given the chance to sign in at the checkout desk to read in the library. Each received a Book Buck for a 30 minute session that was put into a drawing. The more you read and the more book bucks you gained, the better their chances of winning. The library gave away 192 book bucks which equaled 96 hours read in the library. Thank you to all those that participated, it was great to see so many library visits and dedicated readers this summer.
Also, thank you to the Friends of the Library for purchasing the prizes for this promotion.
Congratulations to our 2 and 3rd place winners; Carson Arens, son of Brad and Jan Arens received a $15 gift certificate to Mrs. Z’s Korner Kones and Mason Buschkamp, son of Tony and Brenda Buschkamp received a $10 gift certificate to Mrs. Z’s Korner Kones.

Read Across America
The library was transformed to a “Drive-in” movie to celebrate Read Across America! Thank you to the Friends of the Library for all their hard work to make this event so successful. Over 60 pajama wearing kids participated! They transformed their boxes into cars by going through stations to fuel up, license and decorate their cars, put tires and steering wheels on and finally taking them through the car wash to get them shiny and clean for the drive-in. Also, thank you to Chuck Meirose for reading to the movie goers that night!
