Do you still use the OverDrive app? OverDrive is replacing it with Libby!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Libby is provided by OverDrive and connects you to your library’s OverDrive collection, including your favorite\u00a0ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, and more!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Back on May 1, 2023, the\u00a0OverDrive app for mobile devices was discontinued<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, on November 13, 2024, OverDrive is removing the MP3 audiobook download option<\/strong> when borrowing audiobooks, and will stop supporting the OverDrive desktop app for Windows and Mac. You will only be able to download audiobooks using the Libby app<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About this change<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The only things affected by these changes is the older OverDrive mobile app and now the OverDrive desktop app<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\u00a0OverDrive website,<\/a>\u00a0will stay the same<\/strong>, and you can still access it on any browser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\u00a0Libby app,<\/a>\u00a0is\u00a0not\u00a0<\/em>changing<\/strong>. If you’re already using Libby, you’re good to go!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to switch<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Step 1<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Download Libby,<\/a>\u00a0or visit\u00a0libbyapp.com,<\/a>\u00a0to get started\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0(You can also find the Libby app in your device’s app stores)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 2<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Find your library and sign in<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you open Libby, you\u2019ll be guided through simple setup steps to find your library and sign in with your card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 3<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Sync your OverDrive wish list<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once you\u2019re signed in, you\u2019ll be prompted to sync your OverDrive wish list from an in-app notification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 4<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Start reading & listening<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Browse your library and find something new to borrow, or start reading the current loans on your Shelf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why is this happening?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

OverDrive launched the Libby app in 2017, with the goal of creating a simple and intuitive library app that builds on the core experience from the OverDrive app. They closely reviewed what was working with the OverDrive app and what could be improved. During this time, they didn’t want to interrupt the experience for users, so the two apps have both been available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanks to feedback from librarians and readers like you, Libby is now a great app for everyone and there’s no longer a reason to have two apps that do the same thing. Libby continues to have new features and updates added based on reader and librarian feedback. Libby offers many unique features and options that are not available in the OverDrive app.\u00a0See more about these features<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
