Recently our library has been blessed with two very substantial donations. Last week a check for $500.00 came from Redeemer Lutheran Church here in Hooper. This was taken from their proceeds made at the annual Waffle Supper. They decided to show their appreciation for the town’s continued support of that fundraiser by sharing with the community. The Board of Trustees and I will determine how to use those funds in the near future.
Every Friday the library hosts Coffee Corner which is open to the public but the majority of the people who come are from the local G.G.C.G. coffee group. This group has supported the library in the past but this year it was an extra surprise when I came to work the Friday after my birthday and the group not only sang Happy Birthday to me, but presented me with a card & flower in appreciation for Coffee Corner AND a check for $200.00 for the Summer Reading Program. This group of ladies and a few others have not only been coming to our weekly program since it began in 2011 but Lois Schulenberg and Kay Livingston (pictured with me) have worked at the library when needed for the past 7 years, and even before that they were volunteers. The program, which averages from 12-15 people per week, has brought many new patrons into the library that hadn’t been here for years and even got some of them reading again. Many of them have also encouraged other residents in Hooper and the surrounding area to use our library.
On behalf of Hooper Public Library I express the utmost appreciation for these gifts.
