On December 17, (a Wednesday), the library will host a Christmas Open House with treats and drink for anyone who wants to stop in and see our Christmas decorations, check out Christmas books or just come in and say hi. We’d love to see you.

A bit of library history: the first libraries consisted of archives of the earliest form of writing—the clay tablets in cuneiform script discovered in Sumer (modern day southern Iraq), some dating back to 2600 BC. Private or personal libraries made up of written books appeared in classical Greece in the 5th century BC. In the 6th century, at the very close of the Classical period, the great libraries of the Mediterranean world remained those of Constantinople and Alexandria.

Modern libraries are increasingly being redefined as places to get unrestricted access to information in many formats and from many sources. They are extending services beyond the physical walls of a building, by providing material accessible by electronic means. Your library (Kimball Public Library) has many resources for you and your friends and neighbors.

One of the library’s computers, which provides help for the disabled, rarely gets used. It enlarges the print for reading, will read documents to you, has larger keys for arthritic hands and much more. If you know someone who could benefit from this computer, please let them know.
