Summer Story Hour

Just a reminder that Summer Story Hour starts tonight at the Community Building, 6:30-7:30 pm.

The theme this year is “Build a Better World” and Megan & Nikki have lots of fun activities planned.

July 17th, 24th & 31st are the rest of the sessions, so the kids will have lots of time for fun and great activities!!

Changes to our Page!!

Just like the heading says, “Check Out the Changes”!! I am so excited to have this done finally! Aneeka Ramirez of our new library system came up for a visit yesterday and was kind enough to set this all up for us. It will be a one stop shopping experience for all of you.

The OverDrive link will take you right to the page where you will start “shopping” for a new book to read!

The link for Destiny will take you to the page where you can see if we have a certain book or movie you have been wanting. If you find it, call the library and have us reserve it for you.

How much easier is that. If you have any questions, just call me at the library.

Whats New At Our Library

Finishing the gazebo has been put on hold until spring. One of the volunteers has had to have shoulder surgery, therefore he needs time to recover. We sincerely appreciate everything our volunteers do for our library and realize their lives come first.

However, we will be working on the grounds of the lot the gazebo sits on. A local nursery owner has generously drawn up a landscaping plan for us and within the month she will be planting trees and other flowering plants on the lot. She will be donating all of the plants and her time for planting everything!!

We are so lucky to have such generous people in our village that do these things for our library.

The library has gotten lots of new reading material and some new canning and preserving books for you to check out. Stop in and see if they are anything you “need” to take home for a couple of weeks.

End of Summer is Near

Tonight is our Story Hour Cookout, which we have had to move indoors , because we are getting a nice slow rain now. We will still have grilled hotdogs, chips, juice and cupcakes. Afterward the kids get to use their “Dino Bucks” to buy items from the “Store”. The kids earned their dino bucks by keeping track of all the books they have read since story hour started.

Last weekend was Meadow Grove’s “Corn Daze” and the library had a float in the parade, which we got a trophy for third place. The kids on the float were very excited!!!

Work on the gazebo has halted this week, but hopefully will start up soon. We still need the benches on the inside of it built. The volunteers have been really great working on it. Guess the trees and plants will wait until next spring.

Of course the next thing on our agenda is budget and then accreditation for the library. Two big items I can’t wait to get done.

2013

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Years.

Now it is back to everyday life and it’s daily routines.

We have our Christmas decorations down and put away for next year. Doris and I did some weeding in the adult fiction section. Our shelves were to the point of bulging so we knew it had to be done. Now we have quite a few books on our ongoing booksale. If you are interested stop and check out the good buys. We also have movie on vhs tapes for sale. They are only a $1 for a grocery sack full of movies!

Ann is no longer working at the library. She found a job with in Norfolk with more hours available for her. She seems to be happy with the change.

We have lots of new books and dvds for check-out so stop and see us about them.

Busy Summer

Whoa, I just can’t believe the start of the school year is just around the corner. We have been busy this summer with story hour in June and July (which by the way, we had super turn outs)! Ann did a wonder job with story hour this year. She used our new BTOP equipment to show outdoor movies for the kids and had great activities!

We had a combination bake and book sale in June. All of our bake goods were sold and a lot of books were sold too.

We have one more activity this coming week for the kids. It is a sewing class and we will be making a 10 minute table runner. Boys and girls can participate. All you need is a sewing machine and we will furnish the fabric kits for you to purchase. Yes, girls I have several horse kits to choose from and some good ones for the boys too. These classes will be August 7th and 9th at the Com. Building 9am-11am. Cost of the kits is $10.00. Hope to see a lot of sewers.

We have had lots of good reading material for our patrons this summer and the newest DVD’s too. These have all had good use with the hot weather we have been having. Nobody wanted to go out in it.

Enjoy your last days of summer vacation and have a good start of the new school year kids.

Summer is Here!!!

Each month seems to just fly by anymore. Guess we have been busy. Summer story hour started today. It will run the next two Tuesdays of June and July 14, 21, and 28. We hope lots of kids attend.  The alumni came through for us and we were able to purchase a new sign for our building.  Our next project will be paneling the walls in our front room at the library, since our wallpaper is really loosening  up. It seems like it is always something.

We have plenty of new books and DVDs so stop and see if any suit your mood.

Library’s New Project

Our Open House Event for our new BTOP Computers drew about 25-30 people. For Meadow Grove that is pretty good. They were all very impressed with the new computers.

Last week I got the library’s Statisical Report done.  That is always the first big project of the year that needs to be completed.

The library board has decided that our library needs a new sign for our building. We have contacted Love Signs in Norfolk and they came up with a wonderful design for us. Just something plain and straight forward. The cost is $1100 so we are going to be appealing to our patrons and the alumni to help us out with this project. I know they will come through for us.

Were many of you fortunate to get e-readers for Christmas? The library possibly will be having a workshop to show you how to load books onto them. Would anybody be interested in this? Let me know and I will see what I can arrange.

New BTOP Computers

Yes, our new BTOP computers and equipment have arrived and have been installed.

They are wonderful computers with great software.

Our patrons that have used them already are really impressed with them also.

We all need to thank the Library Commission for applying for this grant. It has been a godsend to many libraries in Nebraska.

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving and I will be letting you know the date of our open house event for the new computers.

The Computers Are Coming!!!!

Yes, I heard from JoAnn, at the Library Commission today, that our new computers will be coming October 26th. How about that kids? Are you ready for them????

The Booster Club had a wonderful day for their Historical Walk down Main Street of Meadow Grove. The library was open that afternoon so interested people could view the changes to the building after the library took it over. They had a nice group of people participating in the walk.

New DVDs this month are: Soul Surfer, Green Lantern, & Grace Card.

New books by the following authors are: Brown, Grisham, Sanford, Woods, Blackstock and Brunstetter.
